Mission

Pionero Philanthropy advances Guatemala's philanthropy & nonprofit landscape through data-driven initiatives centered around credibility, trust, and best practices.

990-EZ for the year ended December 31, 2024

Program accomplishments

  • Academy Program: An educational program, originally launched in 2023, that delivers online and in person training programs to strengthen nonprofit organizations in Guatemala. In 2024, a more extensive course, How to Create a Nonprofit Organization, was offered. This 6-week program included five online sessions (22.5 hours each) and a final in-person graduation. Twenty-four students participated, six received partial scholarships, and participants gained skills in mission and vision development, legal structures, finance, fundraising, and organizational credibility. The course concluded with awards and donations from local businesses for the best organizational plans. Significant resources were invested in running the program and in its ongoing development and growth.
    Expenses $138 · grants $9,645
  • Data Program: Pionero maintains the most comprehensive nonprofit database in Guatemala, containing approximately 9,000 organizations. The database distinguishes between member nonprofits (those evaluated and accredited) and nonmember nonprofits (listed but not accredited). For accredited members, Pionero compiles and publishes up to 88 standardized data points, including mission, budget size, funding needs, program focus, etc. For non-member organizations, more than 30 data points are collected. The program also integrates 114 socioeconomic indicators across 22 departments of Guatemala, providing demographic data to guide donors, researchers, and policymakers. Through this initiative, donors and partners gain reliable access to nonprofit sector data, improving transparency, and supporting organizational development across Guatemala.
    Expenses $5,967
  • Grants Program: Pionero established its grants program to provide direct financial support to nonprofit organizations in Guatemala that meet defined standards or transparency, sustainability and impact. In 2024, two grants were awarded to the Asociacion Civil Pionero in Guatemala, furthering its mission to build capacity of the nonprofit sector. While this program has slowed in recent years as organizational resources shifted toward the Data and Academy Programs, it continues to serve as an important mechanism for supporting Guatemalan organizations directly and remains aligned with Pionero's long-term vision.
