Program accomplishments

  • GRANTS PROGRAM THE GREENWAYS FOUNDATION GRANTS FUND HAS PROUDLY AWARDED A TOTAL OF 277,100.63 TO SUPPORT TRAIL DEVELOPMENT, MAINTENANCE, AND PROMOTION ACROSS INDIANA. IN 2024 ALONE, WE DISTRIBUTED OVER 39,000 TO IMPACTFUL PROJECTS, INCLUDING 10,000 TO THE EVANSVILLE TRAILS COALITION FOR A REGIONAL MASTER PLAN, 10,000 TO PENNSY TRAILS OF HANCOCK COUNTY FOR CRITICAL TRAILBED IMPROVEMENTS, AND 2,500 TO THE MIDWEST EQUINE TRAIL FOUNDATION FOR DRAINAGE UPGRADES AT WHITEWATER STATE PARK. WE ALSO SUPPORTED THE CENTRAL INDIANA LAND TRUST WITH 9,000 FOR INTERPRETIVE SIGNAGE AND SEATING, AND AWARDED 8,000 TO THE FRIENDS OF THE WHITE RIVER TRAIL FOR COMMUNITY CLEAN-UPS AND A BICYCLE-BASED ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION PROGRAM. THESE GRANTS REFLECT OUR COMMITMENT TO EXPANDING ACCESS TO TRAILS AND GREEN SPACES ACROSS THE STATE. THE TRAILS GATHERING THE 2024 TRAILS GATHERING WAS A RESOUNDING SUCCESS, BRINGING TOGETHER 65 TRAIL PROFESSIONALS AND ENTHUSIASTS FROM ACROSS INDIANA FOR A DAY OF LEARNING, NETWORKING, AND COLLABORATION. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH A LOCAL PARKS AND RECREATION ASSOCIATION AND INDIANA DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES, WE CREATED A DYNAMIC SPACE FOR ATTENDEES TO SHARE BEST PRACTICES AND INNOVATIVE STRATEGIES FOR DEVELOPING, MAINTAINING, AND IMPROVING TRAILS IN THEIR COMMUNITIES. THE EVENT FOSTERED MEANINGFUL CONNECTIONS AND PROVIDED PRACTICAL TOOLS TO HELP LOCAL LEADERS BUILD STRONGER, MORE SUSTAINABLE TRAIL NETWORKS WHICH DEMONSTRATED THE POWER OF COLLABORATION IN ADVANCING TRAIL ACCESS AND OUTDOOR EQUITY STATEWIDE. ADVOCACY GREENWAYS FOUNDATION CONTINUES TO LEAD EFFECTIVE ADVOCACY EFFORTS FOR TRAIL DEVELOPMENT AND PROTECTION IN INDIANA. ONE OF OUR KEY SUCCESSES IS GROWING THE BIPARTISAN INDIANA TRAILS CAUCUS TO 48 MEMBERS, UNITING REPUBLICANS AND DEMOCRATS FROM THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY AROUND A SHARED COMMITMENT TO TRAIL ACCESS AND OUTDOOR INFRASTRUCTURE. EVEN AS STATE AND FEDERAL FUNDING FOR TRAIL PROGRAMS FACES SIGNIFICANT CUTS, WE REMAIN A STRONG VOICE FOR INVESTING IN INFRASTRUCTURE THAT SUPPORTS PUBLIC HEALTH, DRIVES LOCAL ECONOMIES, AND CONSERVES INDIANA'S NATURAL LANDSCAPES. EACH YEAR, WE PUBLISH A LEGISLATIVE PLATFORM TO GUIDE THIS WORK, WHICH CAN BE VIEWED AT WWW.GREENWAYSFOUNDATION.ORG.
