Program accomplishments

  • Pamper Palooza is an all-female event created to honor and uplift the women who support our military community. This special day is for military and veteran caregivers, widows of soldiers and veterans, and female spouses of soldiers and veterans. Pamper Palooza is dedicated to pampering the women who give so much of themselves while standing beside, caring for, and remembering those who have served. It is a time to relax, be celebrated, connect with others, and feel appreciated for the strength, love, and sacrifice you carry every day. created a safe and supportive space for women to have the hard conversations about living with and caring for a veteran with medical needs. Through honest discussion, shared experiences, laughter, and connection, attendees began healing together and building a meaningful support group. Each attendee also received a goodie bag filled with donated pampering items, reminding these ladies that they are seen, appreciated, and deserving of care, comfort, and encouragement. 17 of the 22 ladies attended

  • Hidden Heroes Rise 2025 Summit, a premier gathering for Hidden Heroes, military and veteran caregivers who support our nation's veterans. The summit will take place April 12, 2025, at The Mullin Life Center and will focus on the theme of Mental Well-Being.The ev ent will feature renowned speakers General J.R. Gorham, David Buzzard, and Jeannette Davidson-Mayer, along with panel discussions, vendors, and opportunities to connect with fellow Hidden Heroes. "Knowing you are not alone and where to look for help is vital as a military or veteran caregiver. The long-term side effects of war last for many years," said Jeannette Davidson-Mayer, President of Our Central Command Post. Supporting North Carolina's Hidden Heroes, military and veteran caregivers provide an estimated $199 billion to $485 billion in care each year. Many also sacrifice income, with Hidden Heroes forgoing an estimated $4,522 in annual household income because of caregiving responsibilities. These financial and emotional burdens directly affect the caregiver's mental well-being. According to the Elizabeth Dole Foundation RAND Study released September 24, 2024, more than 40 percent of American adults, or 105.6 million people, are caregivers for adults who are wounded, ill, or injured. Of those, 14.3 million care for a service member or veteran. Many Hidden Heroes do not realize they are caregivers, while others are unaware of the resources available to them. The Hidden Heroes Rise 2025 Military & Veteran Caregiver Summit is for anyone who supports a veteran, regardless of the number of hours spent caregiving each week. This includes spouses, family members, friends, neighbors, loved ones visiting veterans in nursing homes, and those helping veterans manage anxiety, depression, injury, or illness. It also includes Hidden Helpers, the children of veterans who step into caregiving roles during their formative years. Supporting military and veteran caregivers is a national priority.
