Mission

GENERATIONS ON LINE'S MISSION IS TO FOSTER AND PROMOTE INTERNET LITERACY, ACCESS AND SKILLS TO OLDER ADULTS.

990 for the year ended December 31, 2025

Program accomplishments

  • WE CELEBRATED OUR 25TH ANNIVERSARY IN SEPTEMBER, WITH TRIBUTES TO THOSE WHO BROUGHT US TO THIS POINT AND A RETROSPECTIVE FROM THE LAUNCH WITH THE U.S. SECRETARY OF COMMERCE NORMAN MINETA AND PHILADELPHIA MAYOR JOHN STREET ON SEPTEMBER 7, 2000. MOVING FROM A 5-YEAR VISION TO SERVE 72,000 SENIORS, WE HAVE NOW TRAINED MORE THAN 300,000 OLDER ADULTS IN EVERY STATE AND IN SOME ENGLISH-SPEAKING COUNTRIES THROUGH OUR WEB-BASED TUTORIALS AND APPS. 2025 WAS A MAJOR YEAR FOR OUR WORK IN PHILADELPHIA, THANKS TO THE SARAH RALSTON FOUNDATION WHICH PROVIDED A SIGNIFICANT TWO-YEAR INNOVATION GRANT TO HELP US DEVELOP IMACOMPUTER.ORG, A TRAINING, SAFETY, AND EXPERIENTIAL INTRODUCTION TO CONVERSATIONAL AI. WE COMPLETED FIVE FOCUS GROUPS AND FIVE DIVERSE PILOT STUDIES TO CREATE AND REFINE A LEARNER-CENTERED TUTORIAL IN 9 LANGUAGES. SOME 6,000 INDIVIDUALS OVER THE AGE OF 65 WERE TRAINED ON THE USE OF THEIR PHONE OR TABLET SO THEY COULD TAKE ADVANTAGE OF EVERYTHING FROM APPS TO ZOOMING WITH FAMILY. 18 NEW GROUPS CONTACTED US ABOUT CREATING A SIP & SWIPE CAF, OUR DEPLOYMENT STRATEGY FOR BASIC INTERNET LITERACY. THIS IS IN ADDITION TO THE 48 SIP & SWIPE CAFES WE HAVE HAD IN PHILADELPHIA OVER TIME. WE HELPED LOCAL SENIOR CENTERS REDUCE COSTS BY PROVIDING DIGITAL LITERACY TURNKEY PROGRAMS AT NO COST; ADDING FIVE NEW PARTNERS IN 2025. OTHER PARTNERSHIPS AND OUTREACH OPPORTUNITIES WERE: "MICHAEL PIERCE, DIRECTOR OF TECHNOLOGY, SPOKE TO A PACKED HOUSE AT THE TECHNOLOGY LEARNING COLLABORATIVE ANNUAL CONFERENCE "GOL WAS ASKED TO PRESENT A TWO-HOUR WORKSHOP AT PCA'S REGIONAL MEETING WHICH 120 PROFESSIONALS ATTENDED AND PROVIDED EXCELLENT FEEDBACK FOR OUR AI PROGRAM. "THROUGH BOARD MEMBER KATHY JEDRZIEWSKI, WE WERE INVITED TO PRESENT A POSTER SESSION ON OUR INNOVATIVE AI PROJECT AT THE ANNUAL PENN MEDICINE GERIATRIC SYMPOSIUM, RESULTING IN A 26-PERSON PILOT PROGRAM FOR OUR AI PROJECT. "WE ALSO CONDUCTED A STUDENT PROJECT FOR THE COMPUTING & SOFTWARE SYSTEMS UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON BOTHELL STEM DIVISION IN WHICH 26 COLLEGE STUDENTS WORKED WITH 26 OLDER ADULTS TO EVALUATE IMA COMPUTER, GAIN INSIGHTS AND FEEDBACK OVER A FIVE-WEEK COURSE. "TOBEY DICHTER WAS ASKED TO PRESENT THE KEYNOTE SPEECH AT JEVS ANNUAL REGIONAL MEETING. WE LAUNCHED A MAJOR SAFETY ON THE INTERNET TRAINING PROGRAM FOR OLDER ADULTS, A SIGNIFICANT AND MUCH NEEDED TRAINING. IN JANUARY, NTIA ANNOUNCED THE FIRST ROUND OF DIGITAL EQUITY ACT COMPETITIVE APPLICANTS THEY ARE RECOMMENDING FOR AWARD. IN THIS ROUND, NTIA RECOMMENDED MORE THAN 250M IN AWARDS TO 24 ORGANIZATIONS TO SUPPORT PROJECTS IN 39 STATES AND TERRITORIES. THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA WAS ONE OF THEM. AND GENERATIONS ON LINE WAS AMONG THE COALITION OF 18 PARTNERS WHO WON A GRANT TOTALLING 12 MILLION DOLLARS OVER FIVE YEARS. ON MAY 9, THE NATIONAL TELECOMMUNICATIONS AND INFORMATION ADMINISTRATION (NTIA) SENT TERMINATION OF FUNDING LETTERS TO RECIPIENTS OF GRANTS AUTHORIZED UNDER THE DIGITAL EQUITY ACT, WHICH WAS PASSED IN 2021 AS A COMPONENT OF THE BIPARTISAN INFRASTRUCTURE LAW (BIL). LITIGATION IS PENDING.
