Program accomplishments

  • SUPPORT GROUPS AND PATIENT & CARE PARTNER EDUCATION: THROUGH OUR SUPPORT GROUPS, THE WESCOE FOUNDATION FOR PULMONARY FIBROSIS CONNECTS PATIENTS, CARE PARTNERS, AND FAMILIES TO ESSENTIAL EDUCATION, SUPPORT, AND RESOURCES WHILE NAVIGATING PULMONARY FIBROSIS. WE HAVE EVOLVED FROM ONE SUPPORT GROUP IN THE LEHIGH VALLEY, PENNSYLVANIA AREA TO 19 SUPPORT GROUPS IN PENNSYLVANIA, NEW JERSEY, AND DELAWARE. THE SCOPE OF OUR OUTREACH HAS EXTENDED FROM REGIONAL EFFORTS TO NATIONAL AND GLOBAL RECOGNITION WITHIN THE PULMONARY FIBROSIS COMMUNITY. OUR VIRTUAL PLATFORM HAS ALLOWED US TO MAINTAIN CONSISTENT PARTICIPATION AND ACCESSIBILITY, ENSURING THAT PATIENTS AND FAMILIES, REGARDLESS OF GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION, REMAIN CONNECTED AND SUPPORTED. THESE MEETINGS FOSTER MEANINGFUL PEER CONNECTIONS, PROVIDE ACCESS TO LEADING PULMONARY SPECIALISTS, AND EDUCATE PARTICIPANTS WITH CURRENT INFORMATION ON DISEASE MANAGEMENT, CLINICAL TRIALS, AND IMPROVING ONE'S QUALITY OF LIFE. TO GROW AND DEVELOP OUR PROGRAMMING, OUR COLLABORATIVE EFFORTS WITH MAJOR MEDICAL CENTERS, AREA COMMUNITY HOSPITALS, AND CLINICAL AND ACADEMIC INSTITUTIONS REMAIN STRONG, WITH PATIENT AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT. WE HAVE EXPANDED OUR GROUPS TO PRIORITIZE CARE PARTNER SUPPORT, LUNG TRANSPLANT EDUCATION, AND OVERALL MENTAL HEALTH. ADDITIONALLY, OUR SUPPORT GROUPS HAVE BEEN EXPANDED TO FURTHER SUPPORT TO INCLUDE WOMEN, VETERANS, AND GRIEF GROUPS.IN ADDITION TO OUR SUPPORT GROUP NETWORK, THE WESCOE FOUNDATION HAS DEVELOPED A COMPREHENSIVE PATIENT EDUCATION PROGRAM DESIGNED TO EDUCATE INDIVIDUALS AND THEIR FAMILIES THROUGH THE PROGRESSION OF THE DISEASE. THE PULMONARY FIBROSIS PODCAST FEATURES EXPERT INTERVIEWS WITH PULMONOLOGISTS, TRANSPLANT SPECIALISTS, MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS, AND PATIENTS & CARE PARTNERS, OFFERING ACCESSIBLE, REAL-WORLD INSIGHTS INTO LIVING WELL WITH PULMONARY FIBROSIS. THE QUARTERLY EDUCATIONAL LECTURE SERIES BRINGS TOGETHER LEADING CLINICIANS AND RESEARCHERS TO DISCUSS TOPICS SUCH AS SYMPTOM MANAGEMENT, PULMONARY REHABILITATION, CLINICAL TRIALS, AND LUNG TRANSPLANTATION, PROVIDING PARTICIPANTS WITH UP-TO-DATE, EVIDENCE-BASED KNOWLEDGE. LASTLY, WE DISTRIBUTE PATIENT CAREBOOKS, A FOUNDATIONAL RESOURCE DEVELOPED TO HELP INDIVIDUALS AND CARE PARTNERS NAVIGATE THEIR DIAGNOSIS, TREATMENT OPTIONS, AND SELF-ADVOCACY WITHIN THE HEALTHCARE SYSTEM. THESE MATERIALS COMPLEMENT OUR VIRTUAL PROGRAMS AND HELP ENSURE THAT EDUCATION CONTINUES BEYOND THE MEETING SETTING.
