Program accomplishments

  • October 20, 2024 - Coming of Age: Hope presented works by three post-Romantic composers who honor their beginnings in their unique ways. Smetana's "Moldau" lead the 315 attendees along the Czech river, from its source through the countryside and mountains to Prague. Faure's "Ballade" models the form and grace of Chopin's works but with harmonies distinctly French. The featured pianist was born in Tbilisi, Georgia and, as the Artistic Director of the Blue Candlelight Music Series in Dallas, Texas, she continues to make a significant impact as a chamber music artist and concerto soloist. Finally, the 67-member Orchestra played Florence Price's Third Symphony, which revealed African American and modernist elements and received a well deserved standing ovation.
    Expenses $8,632 · grants $4,500
  • March 9, 2025 - Coming of Age: Adventure started off with the seaworthy quest of Swedish composer, Helena Munktell's, Breaking Waves. From the surf to the streets, we followed with NTSO's commissioned work, Zeeskyzii, by local artist, Zion Pullman. The creator of the storyline, along with the artwork and music, Mr. Pullman took us through a journey with his team of heroes: a boy and his loyal animal friends, as they struggle to balance hero life with real life. Mr. Pullman attended the performance and received a standing ovation for his work and AV presentation from the 364-member audience. Our final work for the day, Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 2, took us through the countryside of Tchaikovsky's sister's county home in Ukraine. Incorporating melodies of the region's folksongs, the symphony is a tribute to the unique offerings of this independent country.
    Expenses $6,892
  • May 11, 2025 - Coming of Age: Wisdom. We had our third concert on Mother's Day began with Rimsky-Korsakov's Cortege and his orchestration blending different instruments in the most exciting ways. Next up, we had Skinny Cooks, who brought a fresh and innovative approach to symphonic music. And finally, we had Dvorak's Symphony No. 8 incorporating folk music into the Romantic Period. We partnered with Skinny Cooks again on May 23rd with a small combo playing with them at the South Dallas Cultural Center. On May 24th a string quartet composed of members from the orchestra played at Bonton Farms Market Café. All these events allowed the Orchestra to reach audiences that are under-served by the symphonic community.
    Expenses $12,976 · grants $8,665
  • The NTSO brought a free 1-hour concert full of holiday joy to over 200 shoppers at NorthPark Center (Dallas) on December 6, 2024. And, repeated it for over 100 shoppers at The Shops at RedBird (Dallas) on December 7, 2024.
