Program accomplishments

  • Bridge of Hope 2024Bridge of Hope San Diego is located in the heart of City Heights which is one of the largest refugee resettlement areas in the country. We serve hundreds of families each week that are coming to us for community, food, clothing, toiletries, baby items, furniture and household items. We have a large pool of committed volunteers who serve with us- weekly, some monthly and some come for the different special events we put on each year.Everyday at Bridge of Hope is different: Tuesdays we have ten to twelve volunteers who are committed to receiving donations, organizing donations, reloading our pantry, shelves and racks to be able to serve those families coming to us for services..Wednesday is our new family day where individuals and families are referred to us by different case workers working directly with individuals and families. On a Wednesday we have about 15 volunteers who are ready to greet those who have made an appointment to come and pick out a couple pieces of furniture, items from our kitchen and bedding department as well as a visit to our clothing closet and food pantry. Each family receives all toiletry items; including items for their kitchen and laundry. These families are all facing some kind of transition- transitioning out of homelessness, domestic violence, recovery, those dealing with a disability, veterans, refugees and immigrants, natural disaster victims or any type of crisis. This is a one time scheduled appointment. We serve up to ten families each Wednesday.Every Friday we have a large scale food distribution where we serve between 250-280 families. This is a farmers market style distribution. We provide a large variety of fresh produce, dry goods, meat, dairy, bread and pastry items. We receive anywhere from 12,000 - 14,000 pounds of food from Feeding San Diego, San Diego Food Bank, Costco, Walmart, Target, Trader Joes and Smart and Final. All are welcome. We use an intake service called Oasis. Each client fills out a simple application and receives a card to bring each week. This card has a color on it which indicates the time they can come in order to avoid long lines and disputes in the lines. Oasis also helps us keep count of families served each month. We have approximately 25-30 volunteers each Friday.Every second and fourth Saturday morning is our Community Day. We open our clothing closet to those needing clothes, and we provide a food distribution. We served on average, about 100-150 families twice a month. This is a day where families can come and enjoy participating in arts and crafts, games and hear about any upcoming events that Bridge of Hope will be hosting as well as sharing other resources available in the community. We have about 30-40 volunteers each Community Day.Gracepoint Church bought us a new swing set/ play structure for the kids to enjoy on Saturdays
    Expenses $1,099,230
  • We had our annual Nathan Adams Upton scholarship Award in the summer of 2024. We had4 winners. Each winner received a check, a laptop computer, computer case, and an Amazon gift card.
    Expenses $7,500
