Program accomplishments

  • Hwy 75 Mural Project. During the year a new pedestrian and cycling bridge was complete across Central Expressway with a spiral ramp on the west side terminus. We commissioned a mural picturing native plants and butterflies on 8 pillars of the spiral ramp. The Bridge and pillars are visible to trail users and approximately 240,000 cars per day.
    Expenses $28,804 · grants $50,000
  • Landscape Enhancements and Beautification: Major projects this year were continuing the Rewilding Project which included planting wild flower seeds the complete length of the Trail, creation of pollinator gardens and butterfly habitat, and initiation of a Backland Prairie Restoration Project. Throughout the length of the Trail, these projects served approximately 150,000 walkers, runners and bikers
    Expenses $15,749
  • Other programs included our annual Christmas Light the Trail Event, Multiple Volunteer Workdays on the Trail, Ice Cream on the Trail, and a Free Bike Check Day in conjunction with a local bike shop. Approximately 1,000 trail users participated in these programs
    Expenses $7,945
  • Trail Maintenance and Upkeep. We supplemented services provided by the Parks and Recreation Department to keep the Trail maintained and protect our investment in the landscape enhancements made to the Trail over the years. This also included a summer pilot program for underprivileged high school to learn about conservation, backland prairie restoration and help maintain the Trail. Throughout the length of the Trail, these projects served approximately 150,000 walkers, runners and bikers
    Expenses $7,687
