Mission

Safe Passage for Children of Minnesota is a citizens' group that advocates for improvements in Minnesota's child welfare system. Our mission is to ensure that Minnesota has a child welfare system in which children are safe and reach their full potential.

990 for the year ended December 31, 2024

Program accomplishments

  • Safe Passage spearheaded legislation to create a Supreme Court Council on Child Protection and Maltreatment. The purpose of the council is to review previous recommendations for changes to the child welfare system, discuss additional improvements for the near future and recommend legislative action by January 2026.
    Expenses $41,936
  • Safe Passage supported a variety of bills aimed at protecting children, including the following: a misdemeanor charge for anyone impeding a report of suspected child abuse or neglect; systematic review of all child deaths in Minnesota due to maltreatment; improvements to Social Services Information System (SSIS) to streamline data entry and free up time for case management and case interactions. All bills passed.
  • Safe Passage volunteers sent personal email messages to their legislators related to their state Representatives and Senators throughout the legislative session as well as during in-person visits to legislators during an annual Day on the Hill.
