Program accomplishments

  • Homeownership San Francisco (HSF, or DBA Home SF) is a coalition of experienced, nonprofit housing agencies advancing housing equity and asset building opportunities for low-to-moderate income renters, homebuyers and homeowners. Home SF serves as a centralized resource hub, connecting underserved communities with financial education, housing services, and affordable housing opportunities in San Francisco. Founded in 2009, in response to the foreclosure crisis and the need for additional homeowner retention resources HSF has evolved to become San Francisco's lead agency for connecting San Francisco low and moderate income households with homebuyer education and counseling, post-purchase education, foreclosure prevention counseling and rental housing counseling services.Home SF partners with the Mayors Office of Housing and Community Development and the 5 HUD approved housing counseling agencies in San Francisco to offer the required homebuyer education and counseling certification for City homebuyer assistance programs. As a coordinating body, Home SF provides a platform for housing counselors to share their knowledge and experience, develop best practices, and access training opportunities. Home SF provides ongoing public outreach, content development, language support, and technical assistance. For San Francisco residents, Home SF's website serves as a one stop resource for affordable housing information, and features a calendar of Citywide workshops facilitated by Home SF member agencies and other housing service providers and provides referrals and information. Home SF has proudly hosted the San Francisco Housing Expo, the Bay Areas largest annual affordable housing resource fair and help center, a showcase of the Citys available programs and services for renters, homebuyers and current homeowners. We understand that affordable homeownership is vital to ensuring diverse, mixed-income communities and a high quality of life. Mobilizing a diverse coalition of service providers, Home SF helps to increase access to affordable homeownership opportunities, leverage the capacity nonprofit agencies, provide opportunities for training and skill sharing, and coordinate services. Home SF provides a centralized affordable housing information hub, and helps to insure uniform services and resource connections, so that low- and moderate-income people see homeownership in San Francisco as a viable option.
