Mission

The Mpambara Cox Foundation (MCF) creates community based partnerships between the U.S. and Africa for the purpose of cross-cultural communication aimed at advancing global understanding and improving literacy in African rural schools. Programs are designed to foster and deliver sustainable development solutions to alleviate poverty in Africa through education. In the U.S., the foundation aims to enhance education in schools and colleges to create global awareness through authentic engagement with Africa running partnership programs such as pen-paling and hosting Peace Corps Volunteers in Uganda.

Program accomplishments

  • School-Feeding Program: Meals prepared onsite by MCF trained cooks to provide nourishment 5 days a week to elementary school children in all seven grades.
    Expenses $21,167
  • Public Library and Literacy Program: MCF operates the only public library in rural western Uganda, providing books and educational resources to students, teachers, and community members. The library employs a full-time librarian and hosts university-level librarian interns annually. The children's section contains over 600 titles in the library and another section with stored books supports Katushome, a mobile library serving 2,000 children in five rural primary schools. Additional programs include book clubs, reading initiatives, and volunteer opportunities for MCF scholarship students. Served over 400 total patrons in 2024.
    Expenses $1,724
  • Women In Support of Education Program (WISE): WISE microfinance program issued new loans to women who are mothers in the foundation's partner schools to build their rural business enterprises while pledging to keep their children enrolled and attending school.
    Expenses $2,000
  • The Global Fellow Program (GFP) provides secondary school scholarships to students who have been beneficiaries of our primary school meal programs. Having supported these students through primary education (7 years) with daily nutritious meals, the program addresses the critical transition point where many rural students are unable to continue their education because of cost and family economic pressures that require them to contribute to household income. Each year the foundation adds children to the GFP. Selected Fellows receive school fees, educational materials, uniforms, attend boarding school, and ongoing academic support, tutoring and an annual field trip to visit other parts of the country.
    Expenses $11,504
