Mission

Working to preserve, support and promote quality community healthcare opportunities for the future.

990 for the year ended June 30, 2025

Program accomplishments

  • Master Facilities Plan Funding- Thanks to the initial $171,000 in grant funding from the Bandon Dunes Charitable Foundation. This gift made the Master Facilities Plan (MFP) Southern Coos Heath Districts strategic guide for sustainable growth and enhanced healthcare delivery for our rural and aging population a reality. Phase I of the MFP involved hiring a project manager and architectural firm, allowing us to assess our current and future space needs, improve operational efficiency, and prioritize capital investments that align with our mission. MFP follows initiatives, such as expanding access to both primary and specialty care and enhancing pharmaceutical availability, essential for meeting the healthcare demands of our growing community. The MFP will serve as a roadmap for our infrastructure development while strengthening our commitment to providing exceptional and compassionate patient care.
    Expenses $171,000
  • The School Nurse Program - The SCHF provides quartly grants to support the School Nurse Program serving the underserved rural Bandon School District. SCHF funds the majority of the nurses wages and benefits, with support from the school district. This program is funded thru the annual Golf-For-Health Charity Tournament. As part of its support SCHF sponsers the annual Health Fair at Ocean Crest Elementary School, which includes health education, a hot meal, and distribution of bicycles to children in need.
    Expenses $87,512
  • Mary Richards Scholarship Program- This program offers tuition assistance to individuals pursuing education in healthcare. Many recipients are staff members of Southern Coos Hospital who are furthering their education such as CNAs working toward their degrees as RNs. In the reported fiscal year eight scholarships in the amount of $2,500 each were awarded. The program is funded by individual contributions, proceeds from the SCHF Gift Shop, and the annual Golf for Health Classic fundraiser. This program helps strengthen the rural health care workforce by investing in local talent.
    Expenses $20,000
  • Community Health Education - Womens Health Day- This year we provided 114 women with a valuable day of learning and connection. Offered free of charge, this enriching experience focuses on promoting healthy living while equipping participants with essential tools for their wellness journeys. The event creates a supportive community atmosphere, encouraging women to engage, share, and empower one another as they prioritize their health and well-being.Living & Aging Well Program- This free initiative/program promotes healthy lifestyles and offers resources for seniors to enhance their quality of life.Monthly Meet & Greet- Southern Coos Hospital & Health Center (SCHHC) and Southern Coos Health Foundation (SCHF) provide speakers for a monthly Lecture Series on the second Tuesday of each month, sharing important health, Hospital and community updates and news.
    Expenses $4,332
  • Art Show Program - SCHF curates four themed art shows annually showcasing original work by local and regional artists. Each show is selected by a public Call-to-Artists and is displayed througout the hospital, creating a welcoming and healing enviroment for patients, vistiors, and staff. The program is well regarded in the local art community and draws community members to the hospital during quarterly opening receptions. While artists retain proceeds from the sale of their work, manny choose to donate a portion back to support the SCHF mission. This ongoing program intergrates the artsinto a healthcare setting to promote wellness community ingagement and cultural enrichment.
    Expenses $4,095
  • Early Cancer Detection Assitance - SCHF supprts early cancer detection efforts in the underserved rural community of Bandon by funding preventive screenings for individuals who are uninsured and unable to afford these services. Screenings include mammograms and PSA lab tests which are performed through Southern Coos Hospital. SCHF pays the full cost of these screenings, ensuring access to essential cancer detection and prevention services for vulnerable populations.
    Expenses $2,989
  • Drive-Thru COVID/Flu Vaccination Clinics- As part of its mission to improve community health and expand access to care SCHF supported a no-cost community vaccination clinic in collaboration with Southern Coos Hospital. The program provides COVID-19 and Flu vaccinations to the public regardless of insurance or ability to pay. Vaccines are purchased by the hospital and administered by staff voluteers, supported by community members donating their time. Contributions received in conection with this event are granted to the hospital to help cover vaccine costs. The foundations role in this initiative reflects its broader commitment to public health and reducing barriers for vulnerable populations in rural Oregon.
