NORTHWESTERN LEGAL SERVICES ASSISTS LOW INCOME INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES BY GUIDING THEM THROUGH THE LEGAL SYSTEM USING ADVOCACY AND EDUCATION TO OBTAIN JUSTICE WITH THE GOAL OF IMPROVING THEIR QUALITY OF LIFE AND STRENGTHENING OUR COMMUNITY.
Program accomplishments
- NORTHWESTERN LEGAL SERVICES ASSISTS LOW INCOME INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES BY GUIDING THEM THROUGH THE LEGAL SYSTEM USING ADVOCACY AND EDUCATION TO OBTAIN JUSTICE WITH THE GOAL OF IMPROVING THEIR QUALITY OF LIFE AND STRENGTHENING OUR COMMUNITY, BY BLENDING TRADITIONAL METHODS OF LEGAL AID REPRESENTATION AND COUNSEL WITH INNOVATIVE STRATEGIES. LAST YEAR, WE HANDLED APPROXIMATELY 3,491 CASES AND CLOSED APPROXIMATELY 3,014 CASES FOR LOW INCOME INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES AND HELPED 6,609 PEOPLE THROUGHOUT 10 COUNTIES IN NORTHWESTERN PENNSYLVANIA. THE ECONOMIC IMPACT OF THESE EFFORTS YIELDED JUST OVER $1,966,000 IN CUMMULATIVE FINANCIAL AWARDS FOR CLIENTS, INCLUDING BACK AWARDS, SETTLEMENTS, DEBTS AVOIDED, AND MONTHLY BENEFITS TO POVERTY-LEVELExpenses $2,755,224 · revenue $4,490
