Program accomplishments

  • CCA PROGRAM SERVICES ACCOMPLISHMENTS: CLINICAL CARE ASSOCIATES OF THE UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA HEALTH SYSTEM (CCA) IS PART OF THE UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA HEALTH SYSTEM (UPHS). IN KEEPING WITH ITS CHARITABLE PURPOSE, UPHS ACCEPTS PATIENTS IN SERIOUS NEED OF MEDICAL CARE REGARDLESS OF THEIR FINANCIAL STATUS. UPHS MAINTAINS RECORDS TO IDENTIFY AND MONITOR LEVELS OF CHARITY CARE PROVIDED, INCLUDING THE AMOUNT OF PAYMENT FORGONE, BASED ON ESTABLISHED RATES, FOR SERVICES AND SUPPLIES FURNISHED UNDER ITS CHARITY CARE POLICY. UPHS ALSO PROVIDES CARE TO PATIENTS WHO DO NOT HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE OR MEET THE CRITERIA TO QUALIFY FOR ITS CHARITY CARE POLICY, AND CERTAIN AMOUNTS CHARGED FOR SUCH SERVICES ARE DEEMED TO BE UNCOLLECTIBLE. IN FY 2025, CCA PROVIDED $32 MILLION IN CHARITY AND UNDERFUNDED CARE FOR MEDICARE AND MEDICAID FAMILIES. CCA WAS FORMED IN JUNE 1993 TO DEVELOP A GEOGRAPHICALLY DISTRIBUTED NETWORK OF PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIANS. AS OF JUNE 30, 2025, CCA AND ITS NEW JERSEY AFFILIATE, CLINICAL HEALTH CARE ASSOCIATES OF NEW JERSEY, P.C., EMPLOYED OR CONTRACTED WITH 353 PHYSICIANS AND 216 PHYSICIAN EXTENDERS AT 112 OFFICE LOCATIONS THROUGHOUT THE FIVE COUNTY SOUTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA AREA AND THREE COUNTY SOUTHERN NEW JERSEY AREA. CCA HAS GROWN TO BE A PRIMARY AND SPECIALTY CARE NETWORK WITH APPROXIMATELY 37% OF CCA PHYSICIANS PROVIDING PRIMARY CARE, 10% PROVIDING OBGYN CARE, AND 53% A VARIETY OF SPECIALTY SERVICES. CCA PHYSICIANS SERVE AS TEACHERS FOR STUDENTS AND RESIDENTS OF THE PERELMAN SCHOOL OF MEDICINE, AND THE HEALTH SYSTEM HAS REALIZED, AND CONTINUES TO REALIZE, INCREASED ACCESS TO PATIENTS FOR TEACHING AND RESEARCH PURPOSES AS A RESULT OF CCA'S DEVELOPMENT. HUP, CPUP, PRESBYTERIAN, PENNSYLVANIA, PRINCETON, AND CHESTER COUNTY HOSPITALS ALSO EXPECT TO ATTRACT INCREMENTAL ADMISSIONS AND OUTPATIENT VISITS BECAUSE OF THE UNIQUE AND SPECIALIZED SERVICES THEY CAN PROVIDE TO CCA PATIENTS. THE PENN MEDICINE CARES GRANT CONTINUES TO EMPOWER COMMUNITY-BASED INITIATIVES LED BY EMPLOYEES AND MEDICAL STUDENTS BY AWARDING FUNDING ON A QUARTERLY BASIS. THESE GRANTS CAN BE USED TO PURCHASE SUPPLIES AND RESOURCES ESSENTIAL TO ADVANCING FAIR HEALTH OUTCOMES WITHIN THE COMMUNITY. SINCE ITS INCEPTION IN 2012, AND INCLUDING FY2025, THE PROGRAM HAS SUPPORTED OVER 1,264 PROJECTS, DISTRIBUTING MORE THAN $1.38 MILLION IN TOTAL FUNDING. WE EAGERLY ANTICIPATE THE INNOVATIVE APPROACHES THAT FACULTY, STAFF, AND STUDENTS AT PENN MEDICINE WILL CONTINUE TO DEVELOP TO ADDRESS COMMUNITY HEALTH NEEDS. THE FOLLOWING COMMUNITY-BASED PROJECTS WERE SUPPORTED BY CLINICAL CARE ASSOCIATES AND FUNDING FROM PENN MEDICINE WITHIN FY25: CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION FOR LIBERTAE FREEDOM RECOVERY: BREATH OF LIFE MINISTRIES - MADE UP OF THREE CHURCHES IN PHILADELPHIA - HAS SPONSORED EVENTS IN WHICH MEMBERS GIVE BACK TO THOSE IN NEED DURING THANKSGIVING AND CHRISTMAS. THIS YEAR, IN COORDINATION WITH THE OCCUPATIONAL MEDICINE DEPARTMENT, THE MINISTRIES WILL HOST A CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION WHERE MEMBERS WILL PROVIDE LUNCH FOR STAFF AND RESIDENTS, ALONG WITH THEIR CHILDREN. IN ADDITION, GIFTS WILL BE PROVIDED FOR THE CHILDREN AND "SPECIAL IDEAS" FOR THE MOTHERS. COATESVILLE 2-MILE WALK AND WELLNESS FAIR: COATESVILLE'S ANNUAL 2-MILE WALK AND ITS 3-HOUR WELLNESS FAIR ARE HOSTED BY AN OUTREACH GROUP FROM FORWARD IMPACT LIFE MINISTRY. THERE HAVE BEEN PRESENTATIONS ON PRE-DIABETES, HYPERTENSION, HEALTHY NUTRITION, AND DIABETES. THE FAIR ALSO INCLUDES CHAIR EXERCISE, STRENGTH TRAINING, AND ZUMBA SESSIONS. FUNDS WILL GO TO HELP PAY FOR COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE EVENT. GOOD NEIGHBORS: GOOD NEIGHBORS HAD BEEN REPAIRING HOMES AT NO COST TO THE HOMEOWNER FOR LOW-INCOME RESIDENTS IN SOUTHERN CHESTER COUNTY FOR 33 YEARS. FUNDING WILL TO THE GOOD NEIGHBORS PROGRAM, PROVIDING REPAIRS FOR LOW-INCOME HOMEOWNERS AND PATIENTS WHO HAVE BEEN DISCHARGED FROM CHESTER COUNTY HOSPITAL. THE GOAL IS TO REDUCE FALLS BY PROVIDING WHEELCHAIR RAMPS, GRAB BARS, OR TUB CUT-OUTS FOR SAFE SHOWERING. SUCH ASSISTANCE IN OTHER COUNTIES HAVE HELPED LEAD TO A 93 PERCENT REDUCTION IN FALLS. FLEA/TICK DISEASE PREVENTION, SUSAN SPINELLO: FLEAS AND TICKS ARE COMMONLY CARRIED INTO HOMES ON PETS AND ARE WELL KNOWN TO CAUSE DISEASE IN BOTH PETS AND HUMANS. PREVENTION FOR PETS IS AVAILABLE, BUT THE COST IS OFTEN VERY HIGH. SUSAN HAS BEEN A VOLUNTEER WITH THE SPAYED CLUB (TSC), WHICH OFFERS LOW-COST OR FREE VETERINARY CARE TO FAMILIES IN WEST PHILADELPHIA AND DELAWARE COUNTY. HER GRANT WILL COVER THE COSTS OF MANY DOSES FOR DOGS AND CATS. AT THE SAME TIME, TSC WILL OFFERS INFORMATION TO THE OWNERS. MICHAEL PETRONE FOUNDATION, KELLY MORK: KELLY IS A VOLUNTEER WITH THE MICHAEL PETRONE FOUNDATION, WHICH IDENTIFIES NORRISTOWN FAMILIES IN NEED OF FINANCIAL SUPPORT BECAUSE OF HEALTH HARDSHIPS OR SUDDEN LOSS. KELLY WILL DIRECT HER FUNDING TO HELP SUPPORT ITS CHOSEN FAMILY FOR THIS YEAR.
