Program accomplishments

  • HOPE to HOME RESCUE SUPPORT - a life saving partnership to rescue animals that many shelters would consider "unadoptable" was implemented by Paws and Claws in 2021.That means any animal that can't go immediately up for adoption. Often they are sick or injured. Some are underage, unfriendly, or unthrifty. They need 24 hour care, sometimes emergency surgery, a lot of TLC, and a safe place to heal. Every animal in our program has their own individual needs and we strive to address those needs. We are able to take on the hard special needs cases thanks to our wonderful rescue volunteers. Many grateful furry angels were saved from certain death because we provided extensive medical care that included major surgeries. And because someone cared and dared to believe that they could be saved and adopted.Paws and Claws Society provided more than $9,820 in medical assistance in 2025.Fix and Feed (Cat Colony Food Pantry)In a ideal world, every feline would have a loving, forever home to enjoy every day of their lives. Unfortunately, we don't live in an ideal world and it isn't always possible or practical for the feral felines in need here on the PA/NY border to find a forever home.Paws and Claws Society volunteers believe that community cats are worthy of receiving food, shelter and veterinary care, regardless of their socialization - and that colony caretakers are in an indispensable part of the animal welfare community.Fix and Feed "Cat Colony Food Pantry" was designed to help struggling community members feed their cats and dogs. Caretakers of feral cat colonies that are already fixed through our SAFER "Cats on the Border" program are eligible to take advantage of this FREE pet food program. Many colony caretakers struggle to afford necessities for themselves, yet their compassion and sense of duty motivate them to care for the cats they encounter. Without this offering, many dedicated feral cat colony caretakers would use their own personal funds to provide food foe these cats that have been abandoned by society. PACS provided 1,600 pounds of food at a cost of $16,128 in 2025.Give a Little Bowl of Love2025 unfolded as another year of great economic uncertainty for many animal caretakers and their beloved pets. Paws and Claws Society continued our commitment to helping caretakers feed their pets. The need was urgent and PACS again met the need. Since 2008, PACS commitment to life saving endeavor insured that struggling pet caretakers received the support they and their animals deserve.PACS provided much needed food at a cost of $10,128 in 2025.CATS on the Border TNR program has come a long way since it began in the fall of 2015 We are excited to announce that the program continues to be a most successful and comprehensive program and has made a real difference in the quality of life for both area felines and their loving caretakers. In addition to free spay/neuter surgery, each feline received rabies and distemper vaccinations,Felv/FIV testing, and treatment for internal and external parasites. All medical issues were addressed, including a number of life saving surgeries. Kittens and tame cats were removed, fostered and readied for adoption to a new life. As a result of the vaccination and testing that goes hand in hand with the spay/neuter surgery, life for cats in feral colonies is much improved; by reducing the number of kittens produced, by improving the general health and well being of all the cats in the colonies, be reducing the stress of reproduction, and by contributing to the dramatic reduction of the spread of disease. The program for feral colonies also reduces caretaker management costs over time as the colony cats will no longer be producing litter after litter of kittens; kittens that would have no futures other than life in the colony. Wouldn't it be wonderful if everyone would do their part and get with the program1 309 stray/feral cats on the border between PA and NY were TNR'd in 2025 by local Paws and Claws society volunteers at a cost of $45,028.SAFER (Stray and Feral Eminent Rescue)is a program initiative developed and implemented under the auspices of the STAATS FOUNDATION in accord with their plan to establish no-kill communities. Our ""Stray and Feral Cat Assistance" program certainly epitomizes our philosophy of prevention, not destruction. The SAFER network of local rescue groups and individuals is committed to improving the quality of life for homeless and unwanted felines by providing and finding homes, assisting and educating the community, and controlling overpopulation. The SAFER network advocates compassion towards felines, community support and the belief that felines are life-long companions.PACS partnered with local organizations to spay/neuter 200 felines.Burlington Report & Educational Program - PACS was please to unveil its first issue of its newsletter, Burlington Report in April of 2011. The fictional character of Burlington the Cat was born and he began to share his life story and experiences with us. Each issue builds on the original story of Burlington and the family that adopted him. Foe the last 12 years, readers have not only been entertained, but have learned many things as they followed Burlington through his life journey. PACS Burlington Report offering is both educational and entertaining.Burlington Report can be found and read by visiting Paws and Claws Society website at www.pacsnj.org.Paws and Claws Society is a 501(c)(3) federal and New Jersey registered charity operated entirely by volunteers.
