Mission
Friends of Camp Cone was formed to manage 28 acres of forested land at the bottom of Marys Peak. Land is preserved for camping and day only wilderness experience for youth and senior organizations in Benton County. Camp Cone has been preserved and used for various studies over the years. Presently two studies are ongoing; Native trout fish restoration project by the Marys River Watershed. Invasive Species Study by the Knot Weed Monitoring Group. Study has also come to include Beaver habitat along with the native trout study.
Program accomplishments
- Camp Cone was formed in 1934 when the land was donated to be held by First United Methodist Corvallis for BSA Troop 2, who they sponsored. Friends of Camp Cone was formed when the Church decided the liability was too great and passed the property off. In 2023 Camp Cone was primarily used by BSA Troop 2 and Troop 3 for camping and BSA activities. Approximately 35 days in 2024, including 5 WEBLO recruiting days and 15 overnight camping for approximately 14 scouts per day and 4 recruiting days with approximately 14 kids. In the recent past it was used for First United church day use. It is currently offered to any youth or church organization of Benton County. Discussions are ongoing with the Benton County ARC to expand usage to the developmental disabled of Benton County.
