Mission
TFFT's mission is to secure quality education and emotional support for orphan and vulnerable children so they may reach their full potential and thrive in their communities. Focused on work in Tanzania, TFFT envisions a world where all children contribute to society as active and empowered citizens free of exclusion, disadvantage, and vulnerability. We work to fulfill our mission in two ways: by providing access to education for orphaned and vulnerable children and by training teachers to improve the quality of education in Tanzanian classrooms.
Program accomplishments
- Scholarship ProgramThe Foundation of Tomorrow's (TFFT) Scholarship Program set out to harness a hopeful trajectory for Tanzania's youngest. In 2024, we have supported 97 children with educational scholarships. TFFT witnesses scholars flourishing academically, mentally, and socially. In our view, success isn't one set outcome, but rather the growth of a scholar into an educationally well-equipped, physically and mentally healthy, and productive member of society.(Continued on Schedule O)Our Scholarship Program focuses on depth through academic support, personalized developmental guidance, health and psychosocial support. A central tenet of TFFT's work is that success looks different for each student and we use a Whole Child Approach to take into account the diverse ways individuals learn and grow. We support students from their entry into our educational program in pre-kindergarten, to their graduations from secondary school, and to the start of their careers. We provide for students' varying needs through our health and psychosocial program, our career coaching and mentoring program, and our alumni development program. Our wrap-around programs are designed to address the holistic needs of our students, ensuring they are healthy and well-prepared as they navigate their educational paths and transition into adulthood.Parents and GuardiansTFFT's Scholarship Program includes the supporting and strengthening of scholars' families through parent and guardian training sessions. Positive Parenting Training provides scholars' parents and guardians with the ability to support students and foster better practices for raising physically and mentally healthy children.Health and Psychological Well-BeingBecause we recognize that learning does not happen in a vacuum and both physical and emotional wellbeing influence the learning process, our Health and Psychosocial Program is a critical component of our Whole Childapproach. We provide health insurance, health care, and counseling for all scholars. Because many scholars come from extremely vulnerable households, they are in need of extra support to bolster their wellbeing. We continue to deepen our commitment to scholars' holistic care and building resilience through programs and interventions. Parents are educated on positive parenting to compliment the psychosocial support the scholars receive, and we work to develop scholars' leadership skills to foster engagement in community service.Career Coaching and MentoringThroughout each step of a TFFT scholar's educational journey, we provide personalized guidance, coaching, and mentoring. We believe that success takes many forms and looks different for everyone. Because of this, we combine unique support methods and a student-centered mentoring program to create bright pathways towards success for each scholar. It is important we all fill the void of the life lessons typically taught in a healthy home environment. We seek to provide our scholars with an education that allows them to succeed both inside and outside of the classroom. TFFT's Career Coaching and Mentoring Program underpins our work with our scholars and teachers, reaching into the community. Our programs teach social-emotional development, essential life skills, stretches students' imagination, fuels their dreams, builds confidence, and deepens personal understanding. This empowers participants to become independent, compassionate adults, who are able to lead productive lives and are prepared to work collaboratively with their communities to address the issues facing their country.Through our alumni support program, TFFT continues to cultivate the skills and interests of our scholars after they graduate from our program, by providing on-going leadership training, supporting their growth through access to career opportunities that generate success. Further, TFFT's peer mentoring group serves as a platform for TFFT scholars to work together to navigate life after TFFT as young leaders with the education and inspiration needed to act as agents of change in their communities and nation as a whole. The Learning CentreOur new initiative The Learning Centre is expanding and strengthening TFFT's commitment to the students, teachers, families, and communities that we have been working with for over 18 years. TFFT has a proven track record in Tanzania, developing sustainable pathways toward opportunity. The Learning Centre's participatory environment will bolster TFFT's existing programs, engage the entire community, and ignite lifelong learners. Theneed for quality education in Tanzania is more clear and urgent than ever, and transformative change must start at the community level. TFFT intends to further address root causes of educational barriers, extending impact tothe broader community. This new endeavor is fostering healthy and productive communities of people who represent a positive future for their nation and hope for our world. The Learning Centre is designed in partnership with the local government and with the support of our most steadfast partners. The Learning Centre will house six distinct community learning resources, all under one roof: a free lending Library; a Literacy Lab; a Teacher Training and Resource Centre; a Technology and Computer Training Centre; a Higher Education and Advocacy Program; and an NGO and Social Entrepreneurship Incubator. This Centre will bolster the opportunities of not only the scholars, teachers, parents and guardians that we work with, but expand our impact and introduce new educational innovations.Teacher Training ProgramTFFT's Teacher Training Program works to ensure schools in Tanzania are better equipped to provide quality instruction to learners. We provide inservice training on child-centered instruction, participatory teaching techniques, positive behavior modification, formative assessment, planning for effective instruction, and peer mentoring and coaching. The Teacher Training Program works with teachers and school leaders in a wide variety of programming from professional development training and effective lesson planning, to Launching Innovation in Schools, a program for school leaders to equip them with necessary tools for identifying and designing solutions for addressing unique problems within their schools. We provide in-service training on student-centered instruction, participatory teaching techniques, positive behavior modification, formative assessment, planning for effective instruction, develop model classrooms in government schools, and conduct peer mentoring and coaching for teachers. Our Teacher Training Program is designed to enhance teachers' skills to build their own activities based on the needs they identify in their schools and amongst their students in order to produce the best educational outcomes. TFFT has incorporated trainings in schools throughout four districts around Arusha under the direction of the Tanzanian Ministry of Education. The program, some initiatives listed below, empowers school leaders to foster innovation and creativity within their schools, and teachers to develop individualized student centered approaches to teaching and learning. To date, approximately 4,500 teachers were trained, impacting over 270,000 students in classrooms across Tanzania.Teacher of Distinction Award TFFT's Teacher of Distinction Award incentivizes teachers through recognition and reward, motivates them to stay in the profession, strengthens their self-belief and professional identity, and encourages them to continue to transform the learning landscape. Further, the award motivates other teachers to follow leading teachers' examples and shares examples of best teaching practices with school management teams. In searching for recipients of the award, The Foundation For Tomorrow focuses on candidates with an ability to stimulate critical and analytical thinking among students and create an engaging and rewarding learning experience. We also look for teachers that have demonstrated innovative and creative teaching methods and curriculum development. In 2024 we recognized 68 distinguished teachers with this award.Expenses $743,218 · grants $551,311
