Mission

The mission of Beyond the Burn Foundation is to support burn survivors and empower communities through direct relief, strategic investments in burn care research, and partnerships that improve outcomes for those affected by burn trauma.

990 for the year ended December 31, 2025

Program accomplishments

  • Medical Fellowship Program: Beyond the Burn Foundation invests in the future of burn care by funding advanced medical fellowships at leading institutions, including UT Southwestern and Parkland Hospital. These fellowships help address the national shortage of specialized burn trauma surgeons by training physicians in complex burn treatment, trauma surgery, surgical critical care, and survivor-centered recovery. Fellows also advance research and clinical innovation that improve outcomes for patients beyond the operating room. By strengthening the pipeline of highly trained burn specialists, this program expands access to expert care for burn survivors in North Texas and across the country.
    Expenses $213,032 · grants $125,000
  • Direct Survivor Support: Beyond the Burn Foundation provides immediate and flexible financial assistance to burn survivors and their families, helping bridge critical gaps not covered by insurance or traditional systems of care. Support includes funding for essential medical supplies such as compression garments, scar management treatments, and other recovery-related expenses, as well as assistance with the financial burdens that often accompany long-term healing. By addressing both practical and ongoing needs after hospital discharge, this program ensures survivors have the resources and stability needed to continue their recovery and rebuild their quality of life beyond the burn.
    Expenses $61,527 · grants $36,102
  • Strategic Partnerships: Beyond the Burn Foundation collaborates with leading medical institutions and trusted national organizations to strengthen the continuum of burn care and survivor support. Through partnerships with centers such as UT Southwestern and Parkland Hospital, we help advance treatment, improve patient resources, and support innovation in care delivery. In addition, our partnership with the Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors expands access to peer support, mental health resources, and community-based programming that address the long-term emotional and psychological impact of burn trauma. By aligning with organizations that specialize in complementary areas of care, we ensure survivors receive comprehensive supportfrom acute treatment through lifelong healingbeyond the burn.
    Expenses $24,541 · grants $14,400
  • Task Force Program: Beyond the Burn Foundation maintains a national network of firefighters who serve as trusted advocates and on-the-ground partners within their communities. This Task Force acts as our eyes and ears across the country, helping identify burn survivors in need of support and enabling rapid response when injuries occur. In addition to connecting survivors to resources, Task Force members play a key role in raising awareness and supporting grassroots fundraising efforts that extend the Foundations reach. This network ensures we remain closely connected to the communities we serve while delivering timely and meaningful support to those impacted by burn trauma.
