Program accomplishments

  • Established the Village Green Community Resource Center where we provide free computer access, GED courses, business incubation and job support services at no cost to the clients. We developed the Grow Community Teaching Garden where we teach participants how to grow seasonal fruits and veggies as well as agribusiness and other courses to help families become more financially stable. We host health fairs and other health related events. We are certified with the USDA 502 Direct Mortgage program and launched HP Homes, for Affordable Housing for first time, rural, low to very low-income, homebuyers. We host free health fairs and educational programs. We revitalize historic buildings and advocate for additional amenities from the county where warranted. We installed the US Hwy 27 S Veterans Memorial, added upgrades to the historic cemetery, which through our efforts is now listed with the US Park Services' Registered List of Historic Places, host Great American Clean ups, installed sidewalks, fishing piers, upgrades to the MLK Jr. Sports Field and provide arts and cultural programs for the community. We focus our programs on low-income individuals and families, the elderly and veterans. We also launched the Wele Youth Leadership program which provides leadership training and opportunities for employment to youth in 9th - 12th grades. We distribute meals to the hungry and donate produce from the Grow Community Garden. We are not a governmental entity and have no taxing authority. However, we are recognized by Highlands County government for our efforts.
