Mission
To serve our community through the arts.
Program accomplishments
- Our organization is dedicated to serving our communities through the arts. We offer classes and workshops for children and adults, provide community outreach to senior facilities, contribute to community causes and fundraisers, and provide gallery space for artists to present their work to the public.Choteau Arts provides a facility that is accessible to everyone, where an appreciation for the arts and an avenue for individual self-expression can be developed. Here too are opportunities for many generations to learn together, to build relationships, to bolster civic pride, and to support economic development in our communities. A vital arts program has a great impact on both individuals and the community. Many research studies have revealed the strong, positive effect of the arts. Summarizing in one sentence the essence of a RAND Corporation study which can be found at http:// www.princeton.edu/-artspol: It can impact our health and mental well-being, our interpersonal relationships, our sense of identity and civic pride, as well as impacting cultural and economic development in our communities. We strive to offer opportunities to all, believing that financial circumstances should not be a barrier to participation. Programming is supported with grant funds and donations, ensuring that teaching artists are fairly compensated while a broad spectrum of community members join in.Choteau Arts sponsored a year-long traditional music program during 2022. Three levels of fiddle classes and guitar were offered, taught by highly respected musicians. Over forty people of all ages participated. Community outreach included church recitals, performances for senior residences and nursing homes, and playing tunes during our annual Pie Social/Old Time Dance. We provided a 3-day nature journaling workshop with author Hannah Hinchman, drawing participants from across the state and Idaho. Our Fibers on the Front weaving series provided instruction by award-winning weaver Annette Schipf. Pottery classes in both handbuilding and wheel work were always filled enthusiastically. Watercolor, ukulele, drawing, and childrens art classes were among other classes offered.Expenses $17,484
