Program accomplishments

  • The Junior League of Syracuse (JLS) hosted a science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) Day for 70 sixth-grade girls, connecting students with local STEAM professionals who educated and excited the young girls about STEAM related professions and areas of study. In addition to the education sessions, lunch, STEAM-themed books and materials, and thank-you gifts for the presenters were provided. The JLS enhanced the learning environment at the Brighton Academy STEM Center with an artist designed mural. The JLS supported two families through the PEACE Holiday Program by delivering a full wish list and a basket of essential needs. Partnering with the YWCA, the JLS hosted a Tea Party for 30 women, providing inspirational programming, self-care gifts, a boutique-style shopping experience, meals, and essential items for ongoing resident support. Additional community impact included donating 100+ items to Sarah's Guest House, purchasing and distributing clothing and hygiene supplies to the Rescue Mission and Samaritan Center, and preparing holiday baked goods to be served at the Rescue Mission and Samaritan Center. The JLS strengthened community leadership by hosting nine monthly focused membership meetings each with a leadership or training component and sending members to national Association of Junior Leagues International, Inc. conferences. The JLS also awarded a scholarship to advance a local woman's educational and professional goals.
