Mission

THE PURPOSE OF THE FOUNDATION IS TO ESTABLISH AND MAINTAIN A NON-AGE-ISOLATED COMMUNITY FOR THE OLDER INDIVIDUAL. THE FACILITIES AND ATMOSPHERE ARE ONE IN WHICH ALL ACTIVITIES OF A SOCIAL, SPIRITUAL, WORK AND EDUCATIONAL NATURE ARE CREATED FOR ALL MEMBERS.

990 for the year ended December 31, 2025

Program accomplishments

  • The Fellowship houses roughly 90 seniors with approximately 20 live-in co-workers, 10 children and 10 volunteers, in addition to approximately 45 additional live-out co-workers and another 15 volunteers who come in from the local community, all of whom help with the income producing activities. Participating in the most minor way is done with pride by elders being able to provide for themselves and others in the community. A heightened sense of self-worth is health-giving to the greatest degree and of great social value. Activities - Over the years, gifts have permitted the development of biodynamic gardens, greenhouses, apple orchards, flowers, herbs, beautiful meadows, woodlands and trails and the maintenance of chickens, sheep, bees and a fully operating dairy. Various activities in the wood, metal, candle making, weavery, and pottery shops help care for the community's needs and repairs and also produce wonderful crafts. A sense of purpose is inherent in the cultural and education components of daily living here: lectures, dramas, dance, concerts and art. An on-site traditional and complementary medical practice which also contributes to the picture of a vibrant and lively community. Nutrition - A farm was purchased in order to expand the foundation's work in furnishing health-living foods for the members and the larger community. It also serves to preserve green space for Rockland County. The orchards and gardens at the farm are managed through biodynamic organic quality. Member Care - The Fellowship Community, founded nearly 60 years ago, is a long-term care, work-based, intergenerational community, which involves its members in as much activity as possible and includes the aging, ill, and dying older person, and those with mental and physical handicapping conditions. The community cares for a number of economically vulnerable elders who cannot meet the cost of their care. All in the community participate according to ability in some or all of the 8 work areas by producing saleable crafts. They thereby contribute to offset the shortfall that occurs when caring for those unable to pay sufficient funds. The community has recently introduced The Wellness Program. This program offers the aging member additional services for those living independently e.g. housekeeping, meals etc. This program is designed to allow members to stay in independent housing as long as possible, keeping expenses at a minimum and helping delay entering assisted living with its associated costs. .
