THE NATIONAL NEW PLAY NETWORK IS THE COUNTRY'S ALLIANCE OF NON-PROFIT THEATRES THAT CHAMPIONS THE DEVELOPMENT, PRODUCTION, AND CONTINUED LIFE OF NEW PLAYS.
Program accomplishments
- NNPN'S FLAGSHIP INITIATIVE, THE NATIONAL NEW PLAY NETWORK ROLLING WORLD PREMIERES (RWP), SUPPORTS THREE OR MORE MEMBER THEATERS THAT CHOOSE TO MOUNT THE SAME NEW PLAY WITHIN AN 18-MONTH PERIOD. IN THIS PROGRAM, A PLAYWRIGHT DEVELOPS A NEW WORK WITH AT LEAST THREE DIFFERENT CREATIVE TEAMS FOR AT LEAST THREE DIFFERENT COMMUNITIES OF PATRONS, ENSURING THE RESULTING PLAY IS OF THE HIGHEST POSSIBLE QUALITY. RWPS MAY BE MADE UP OF ANY COMBINATION OF NNPN CORE AND ASSOCIATE MEMBER THEATERS, WITH FUNDING TIERED ACCORDINGLY. FUNDED PROJECTS RECEIVE UP TO $25,000 TO BE DIVIDED AMONG THE PARTNER THEATERS, PLUS AWARDS FOR THE PLAYWRIGHTS. NNPN HAS SUPPORTED MORE THAN 100 NEW PLAYS AND MORE THAN 325 PRODUCTIONS TO DATE.Expenses $224,998 · grants $190,000 · revenue $199,376

TO ADDRESS THE MANY DIFFERENT WAYS THEATER COMPANIES WORK TOGETHER AND WITH PLAYWRIGHTS TO DEVELOP AND PRODUCE NEW WORK, THE PROGRAM HAS EXPANDED OVER THE YEARS TO FUND COLLABORATIONS BETWEEN MULTIPLE THEATERS AND COLLABORATIONS BETWEEN THEATERS AND INDIVIDUAL THEATER-MAKERS.Expenses $174,038 · grants $155,000 · revenue $154,219

MORE THAN 68,000 PLAYS ARE CURRENTLY INCLUDED ON THE PLATFORM, WHICH ALLOWS PLAYWRIGHTS TO SHARE THEIR WORK, READERS TO DISCOVER AND RECOMMEND THOSE PLAYS, AND ORGANIZATIONS TO ACCESS PLAYS BY WRITERS THAT FIT THEIR SPECIFIC NEEDS. IN 2025 A NEW TYPE OF SUBSCRIPTION WAS ADDED SPECIFICALLY FOR ACTORS SEEKING MONOLOGUES FOR AUDITIONS OR CLASSWORK.Expenses $113,413 · grants $6,835 · revenue $100,498

MORE THAN 120 PLAYS HAVE RECEIVED SHOWCASE READINGS, AND AS OF JULY 2018, 106 OF THEM HAD RECEIVED WORLD PREMIERE PRODUCTIONS WITHIN THE NEXT TWO SEASONS, MORE THAN 80 OF THEM AT NNPN MEMBERS.RESIDENCY: FOR OVER A DECADE, NNPN'S PRODUCER IN RESIDENCE PROGRAM HAS SUPPORTED SEASON-LONG RESIDENCES AT NNPN CORE MEMBER THEATERS FOR THOSE COMMITTED TO FURTHERING THEIR CAREER EFFORTS TOWARD THE CREATION AND PRODUCTION OF NEW PLAYS.
