Mission

AS THE REPRESENTATIVE VOICE OF THE UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT BODY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF RHODE ISLAND, THE SENATE SHALL BE OBLIGATED TO DISCUSS ANY MATTERS BROUGHT BEFORE THE SENATE BY A MEMBER OF THE URI COMMUNITY THAT AFFECT SUTDENT DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY AS STUDENTS OR AS CITIZENS. THE SENATE SHALL HAVE POWER TO ESTABLISH, RECOGNIZE AND PROMOTE EDUCATIONAL, SOCIAL AND CULTURAL ACTIVITIES FOR THE ENHANCEMENT OF STUDENT LIFE.

  • THE UNIVERISTY OF RHODE ISLAND STUDENT SENATE IS AN ENTITY SEPERATE FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF RHODE ISLAND, WHICH WAS ESTABLISHED TO ACCOUNT FOR THE REVENUES AND EXPENDITURES OF VARIOUS ORGANIZATIONS ON THE UNIVERSITY'S CAMPUS. THE UNIVERSITY OF RHODE ISLAND STUDENT SENATE RECOGNIZES A NUMBER OF STUDENT ACTIVITIES WHICH ARE NOT FUNDED BY THE STUDENT SENATE FUNDS. THESE ORGANIZATIONS GENERATE REVENUE FROM THEIR OWN ACTIVITIES, BUS USE THE STUDENT SENATE'S ACCOUNT. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO RUNS THE STUDENT NEWSPAPERS, THE STUDENT YEARBOOK, THE STUDENT RUN RADIO STATION, WRIU, AND THE STUDENT RUN TELEVISION STATION, URI-TV.
