The Free Store is a large outreach event held every Tuesday, where we not only distribute needed supplies but also connect individuals with community partners (including Fresh Start Durham, which provides showers), to help connect individuals with mainstream resources. In 2025, the Free Store served 1,101 individuals and distributed 25,612 items, including 552 winter coats, 2,065 hygiene kits, 1,126 pairs of shoes, 701 pairs of jeans, 2,971 shirts, and 49 backpacks.Our Get to Work program equips individuals with work-related items such as work boots, nonslip shoes, and uniform components, enabling them to start new jobs immediately. In 2025, we served 45 clients with the work gear they needed to begin employment. 22426 901 Community Case Management: We provide holistic personal care to individuals who are homeless or formerly homeless. Our focus is on securing permanent housing, improving access to physical and mental healthcare, and fostering long-term stability through evidence-based practices. In 2025, we purchased 6 long-range bus tickets to help individuals reunite with their support networks. Our team helped 34 individuals and families move into permanent housing and provided support to keep 10 households stably housed. 226243 30892 Emergency Winter Shelter: Open Table Ministry offers emergency short-term respite during the coldest months of the year to help keep people safe from extreme weather. In 2025, our team provided 316 individuals with over 89 nights providing 1,611 total nights of shelter beds. Our case managers work closely with guests to coordinate wrap-around services and helped 16 households connect to positive destinations, including permanent housing, long-term shelter, and family reunification. 148313 12668 Office Hours: We offer walk-in visits where our staff provide a listening ear and assist with navigating Durham's homeless services. In 2025, we served 859 individuals through Office Hours and supported 375 individuals with mail services, using our address as their physical address. For clothing, shelter, and other practical needs, we document our client's homeless status and meet specific needs as they are communicated to us. People are given only what they specifically request. Payment on behalf of others, such as emergency shelter, utilities, prescriptions, are paid directly to the providers (motels, landlords, rooming houses, utility companies, pharmacies, etc), not to clients. Form 990, Part VI, Section A, line 1a Line 1a Explanation - The executive committee has the authority to act on behalf of the entire Board if it is not possible to gather the entire Board together. The executive committee does not have authority to authorize compensation changes or to approve major expenditures. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 11b Line 11b Explanation - Prior to filing, the Form 990 will be reviewed by the Executive Director, and then distributed to the full Board of Directors for review and approval. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 12c The conflict of interest policy covers all members of the Board of Directors and all employees with significant decision-making authority. These covered persons are required to complete and update annually in October a Conflict of Interest Disclosure statement, and are required to disclose actual or potential conflicts of interest as soon as they are identified. The Executive Director reviews all transactions for which a covered employee has an actual conflict of interest and prescribes a course of action to minimize the effect of the conflict of interest on the transaction. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 15 The Board of Directors, all of whom are independent with no conflict of interest in the compensation arrangement, reviewed and approved the 2025 cost-of-living compensation adjustment for the Executive Director. The Board relied on data from a national nonprofit employee compensation survey to evaluate comparability. The review, discussion, and approval were documented in the minutes of the Board meeting held on October 25. This process was most recently conducted in October 2025 in connection with the 2025 cost of living adjustment.
