Pt VI, Line 6 The organization has members. Any person may be a county Farm Bureau member. All county Farm Bureau members have voting rights and the same access to member benefits. Pt VI, Line 7a The organizations members elect the Board of Directors. Pt VI, Line 7b Certain rights are reserved to members of the organization, including: 1) elect the Board of Directors, including the voting delegate to the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation, 2) adopt amendments to the Articles of Incorporation, and 3) adopt amendments to those bylaws designated as member bylaws. Pt VI, Line 11b A complete copy of Form 990 is provided to members of the governing body for review prior to filing. The return is then signed by an authorized officer and filed with the IRS. Pt VI, Line 12c On an annual basis, all officers, directors, and key employees are required to sign a statement which affirms that they have: 1) received a copy of the conflict of interest policy, 2) read and understood the policy, 3) agreed to comply with the policy, 4) understand that the Organization is tax-exempt and in order to maintain its federal tax exemption it must engage primarily in activities which accomplish its tax-exempt purpose. A sub-committee, comprised of non-conflicted Board of Directors, annually receives all conflict of interest information, reviews, and determines if there are conflicts of interest. The committee then reports its findings back to the Board. Pt VI, Line 19 The Organization does not make its governing documents, conflict of interest policy, or financial statements available for public inspection. Pursuant to state law, some documents may be available to members. Other Part III, Line 4a - Policy - The Benton County Farm Bureau provides ample opportunities for its members and board of directors to use their voice when discussing the Iowa legislation. Members are able to submit an issue they think should be prioritized to the county board or on the Iowa Farm Bureau website at any point of the year. The policy development committee then takes these issues and develops a list to be discussed. Certain issues are then prioritized and drafted into an opinionnaire that all members can participate in. These county resolutions are then given to the state resolutions committee and are adopted by the voting delegates at the Summer Policy Conference in September. Before the legislative session Benton County Farm Bureau also hosts their local legislators at meetings to discuss Farm Bureaus top issues for the year. The legislators are also invited back in the middle of the legislative session for an update on how things are going. Benton County Farm Bureau also meets with Congressional Representatives for our legislators in Washington D.C. to hear updates from there and voice what they are hearing in the county. Other Part III, Line 4b - Membership - The Benton County Farm Bureau operates a membership program that provides members with access to educational resources, industry updates, and opportunities for professional engagement. During the year, the Benton County Farm Bureau served members, offering a structured platform for networking, training, and participation in mission-aligned initiatives. Membership benefits included access to education workshops, digital publications, volunteer opportunities, and member-only events, all designed to support the professional growth and community involvement of participants. The Organization hosted workshops and community events. Membership revenue helps support the Benton County Farm Bureaus broader mission by funding outreach efforts, program development, and operational capacity. The membership program continues to promote engagement, strengthen community connections, and expand awareness of the Organizations activities. Other Part III, Line 4c - Promotion - The Benton County Farm Bureau holds multiple promotional events throughout the year. During the month of May, which is National Beef Month, Benton County Farm Bureau partners with local grocery stores to hold a weekly giveaway called T-Bone Tuesday. Every week a name was drawn to receive a 4-pack of T-bone steaks. The recipient was then posted on Facebook and in the Spokesman along with a fact about the beef industry to help spread awareness. Throughout the year, Benton County Farm Bureau also holds a Snapshot of the Season contest that is promoted via the Spokesman and Facebook. Members are encouraged to submit photos they have taken of their farms, during the fair, during harvest, etc. At the end of a quarter, the Public Relations Committee chooses one of the photos to be the winner that season. They then received a Benton County Farm Bureau branded directors chair and tumbler. All winners and submissions were posted to Facebook and in the Spokesman. During the month of October, which is National Pork Month, Benton County Farm Bureau partners with local grocery stores again to hold a weekly giveaway called Windsor Wednesday. Every week a name was drawn to receive a pound of bacon and a 4-pack of Windsor pork chops. All winners were posted on Facebook and in the Spokesman with about the pork industry to help spread awareness. Pt VI, Line 2 John Ritscher and Robert Ritscher have a family relationship.
