The committee receives and reviews all correspondence and application requests for scholarships, educational stipends and/or requests for grants to help fund worthy projects. The amount of funds has been increasing as has the number of requests that are funded throughout the fiscal year. There is no deadline as the committee, on a timely basis, will award assistance as requests are received. The requested paperwork required varies for each request but includes a formal contact to the KLM Trust from applicants as well as an explanation of what the funds will be used for. (Tuition, to cover expenses for projects dealing with the elderly and youths in the coastal area and South Texas communities including San Antonio area). In some cases, the committee may act on its own and help fund assistance to special projects. Applications submitted are objectively and thoroughly reviewed on a case by case basis. The number of recipients is contingent on the amount of funds available at the time of requests. Some degree of monitoring and follow up is done to ensure awarded funds are used in the appropriate manner. Thus far this selection process for awarding assistance has proven to be effective and efficient. A one-time contribution is sometimes used to help the National Lulac Institute to carry out its mission in helping membership projects ongoing. Pt VI, Line 8b There are no other committees.
