Once a fund agreement is in place with an organization, the Foundation will receive funds from the organization and invest the funds. Use of the invested funds is subject to the same policies as other funds at the Foundation, such as investment, grant-writing, and spending policies. Part V, Line 4: The Foundation's endowment consists of a series of individual funds established for a variety of purposes. Its endowment consists exclusively donor-restricted funds. As required by generally accepted accounting principles, net assets associated with endowment funds are classified and reported based on the existence or absence of donor imposed restrictions. During 2024, the Foundation identified an error in the reporting of endowment fund balances whereby certain funds were previously reported as endowed but should not have been. For this reason, the 2024 beginning balance does not agree with the 2023 ending balance. Part X, Line 2: The Foundation is organized as a Kansas nonprofit corporation and has been recognized by the IRS as exempt from federal income taxes under IRC Section 501(a) as an organization described in IRC Section 501(c)(3). Further, the Foundation qualifies for the charitable contribution deduction under IRC Sections 170(b)(1)(A)(vi) and (viii) and has been determined not to be a private foundation under IRC Sections 509(a)(1). The Foundation is annually required to file a Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax (Form 990) with the IRS. In addition, the Foundation is subject to income tax on net income that is derived from business activities that are unrelated to its exempt purposes. For each of the years ended December 31, 2025 and 2024, the Foundation has determined that it is not subject to unrelated business income tax and has not filed an Exempt Organization Business Income Tax Return (Form 990-T) with the IRS.
