We also offer scholarships to members and their families. We are also actively engaged in activities intended to document, distribute, and preserve the history and legacy of the 102nd Cavalry since its inception in 1890. 1 0 Essex Troop Scholarship Program: Each year, our organization offers four (4) $1000 scholarships to qualified applicants in direct support of their post high school education. In 2025, due to the increased number of applicants, we allocated $7000 for scholarships. Veterans' baseball Outing, Annual Unit Muster, Annual Unit Business Meeting, Annual Holiday Event, etc.: Our organization conducts a number of annual veterans and active duty events and activities for our members and their families. Regimental Heritage Initiative (RHI): Our association conducts various activities designed to educate the public while also fostering and preserving our unit heritage and legacy. These activities include: researching unit history, deployments, accomplishments, etc.; digitizing all hardcopy unit records, journals, maps,etc.; maintaining and improving display areas at the NJARNG armory in West Orange, NJ; constructing replica "Culin Cutters" for display at museums; redesigning and launching a new website; actively participating in local Memorial Day and Veterans' day activities; publishing a newsletter; and placing memorial bricks at various museums and military facilities and organizations. Our organization actively supports a number of other military-oriented 501 (c) organizations and institutions such as the National Armor and Cavalry Foundation, the museum of the US Army, NJ Veterans Homes, the National Guard and Milkitia Museum of New Jersey, etc. Our organization awarded a total of $7000 in scholarships in 2025. Our organization conducts and annual business meeting, an annual unit muster, a veterans' holiday party, a veterans' baseball outing, etc. Our organization is actively working to preserve the legacy of the 102nd Cavalry. We also display a significant amount of uniforms, equipment, swards, photos, etc. raelated to the unit's past missions, responsibilities and deployments. Schedule D, Part III, Line 4 The organization has on public display an assortment of military uniforms, equipment, maps, photographs, and other unit memorabilia dating back to 1890, WW1, WW2 and other unit deployments over the years that depict hiow the u ti and its mission changed over time (cavalry-mech cavalry-mechanized-armor) Form 990, Part III, Line 2 In 2025, the organization responded to correct a failing archway at the National Guard and Militia Museum of NJ (Sea Girt, NJ). An historically significant archway facade made from components from the original Essex Troop armory in Newark, NJ were becoming insecure. The components were removed and moved to stoirage at the NJARNG armory in West Orange, NJ. Also, the organization began a somewhat extensive unit record research and digitization project as part of our Regimental Hertiage Initiative (RHI). Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 6 Our organization has members that previoiusly served in the 102nd Armored Brigade, 50th Armored Division or in the 102nd Cavalry Regiment Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 7a Our officers and trustees are elected at the end of their respective terms by the members in good standing of our organization . Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11b Our Form 990 is provided to our Tressurer as well as the members of our Financial Management Committee Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12c All expenditures are reviewed by the subcommittes involved in the activity and approval is voted on by our officers and trustees and monitored by the Treasurer as well as the Financial Management Committee Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 18 Our completed Form 990 is also sent to the Treasurer as well as members of the Financial Management Committee for their review and filing. Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19 All of our financial documents and filings, as well as our monthly financial reports, are available upon request. Form 990, Part XI, Line 9 The organization received net income of $47100 during 2025 Our Treasurer suffers from acute kidney failure that is being treated by and intense regimen of rhenal dialisys. He is an excellent Treasurer. However, his condition results in successive good and bad days and his ability to prepare the reports necessary to complete the Form 990 requires us to request filing extensions. Please note that the Form 990 is always completed by our Senior Trustee, not our Treasurer, given his current physical condition.
