Dear People, Despite being the Artistic Director, which is a musical position, I have filed the Form 990 for many years. I learned how to do this in New York City, where I worked with the top nonprofit accountants in the city, Lutz and Carr, for another group I was a principal in. This last year was a disaster for me health-wise, as I had severe stenosis of the spine, avascular necrosis of my left femur (which melted away over an inch) and finally a total hip replacement. I managed to conduct our concerts, sitting down at the keyboard, and the season went quite well in the end. But I was mostly in non-stop severe pain starting a bit before New Years in 2024. I'm still suffering from some of the consequences, as they left my right leg two centimeters shorter than the left, but things are much better now and I'm catching up. The 990 for 2024-25 will be filed shortly, with the extension. We've never had a tax person on our board, and I guess it's been too convenient for me just to do these. The one time we did have an accountant on our board, who insisted that I didn't need to bother with this form; she filled out the wrong form (990-EZ) and I had to do it over in the end anyhow, as I didn't have the heart to tell her she messed up when we got the letter from the IRS. This is a good group, which does excellent work in an obscure but beautiful corner of world music, being devoted to the Baroque era with original instruments from the period and with period singing and dance as well. There are only a few such groups nationwide, and I think that we are among the very best. If you could possibly spare us the penalty for this lateness we would be very grateful.
