We are prepared to rid the waters of trash using remote underwater vehicles cleaning the lake beds of microplastics and debris from a depth of 25 feet offshore to the bottom of Lake Tahoe at 1640 ft sharing deep water discoveries along the way with our supporters. false false 173094 This past summer we were able to pick up over 2 tons of trash/ toxic material from the bottom of Tahoe. We work on the lake 4-5 days a week. This past summer we worked April 30th- November 24th 2025 (days per year are weather dependent). We work remotely during winter on updating our software, fundraising, and finding other areas in need.We are surveying the bottom of Lake Tahoe in an organized grid pattern, beginning at depths of 25 300 feet. The Blue ROV2 can dive down removing plastics and trash to 1,640 feet. They consistently engage with agencies, businesses, and community groups to identify collaborative opportunities that support our mission. While we have successfully established several partnerships, these relationships have not yet resulted in significant financial contributions. To strengthen our efforts, we recently contracted an additional paid fundraiser to organize low- or no-cost fundraising events, allowing us to diversify our approach while minimizing financial risk to the foundation.We invest substantial time and resources into grant-seeking activities, including the development of detailed proposals and responses to government RFPs. These efforts require months of preparation and specialized expertise. For example, we recently submitted a proposal for the TRPA Eco Water Monitoring contract and advanced to the final stage before being eliminated. We also pursued an AIS contract with TRPA and were again eliminated late in the process in favor of a larger organization. We are currently preparing a new RFP for AIS removal in the Tahoe Keys, which we anticipate submitting in 2026. Additionally, we applied for the Nevada License Plate Program Grant and the HDR Foundation Grant this year but were not selected. Although these opportunities are strongly recommended for organizations in our field, the application processes are highly competitive and extremely time-consuming for a small nonprofit.Our team also conducts extensive community outreach. Last summer, staff and volunteers went door-to-door to Nevada restaurants and businesses seeking support, resulting in only one substantial donation from a Reno car dealership. We regularly attend community events, organize beach cleanups, and partner with local businesses to raise awareness. These partnerships have included the South Lake Tahoe Family Resource Center, Minglewood, Battle Born, SNO Mountain Apparel, South Lake Brewery, Tahoe Joy Festival, and Crystal Bay Club. While these collaborations strengthen our community presence and advance our mission, they have not yet produced significant financial support. In some casessuch as our holiday gift campaign for underprivileged children with the Family Resource Center- the foundation incurred costs, but we remained committed to serving the community.Despite our persistent efforts, securing funding has proven exceptionally challenging these past years.List all other facts and circumstances, including the sources of support, whether the organization has a governing body that represents the broad interests of the public, and whether the organization generally provides facilities or services directly for the benefit of the general public on a continuing basis. Our organization is dedicated to protecting Lake Tahoe by removing trash and debris from the lakebed and surrounding shoreline so future generations can continue to enjoy its famously clear waters. Even without consistent outside funding, we have remained committed to this mission. To date, our team and volunteers have removed over 7 tons of debris from Lake Tahoe alone.In addition to underwater cleanups, we host beach cleanups to intercept trash before it enters the lake. These efforts are powered by our own volunteers and team members.We also collaborate with leading regional partners, including the Tahoe Fund, to raise awareness about the environmental challenges facing Lake Tahoe. Our work extends beyond routine cleanups: we are searching for the downed Piper aircraft in Rubicon Bayan effort no agency has been able/ willing to completebecause leaving it in the lake poses ongoing environmental risks.Thanks to the dedication of our Board, we secured funding from outside the Tahoe region to keep our operations going. However, by the time those contributions arrived in December 2025, our needs had already outpaced available resources. Recognizing the urgency of paying our employees, the foundation owner stepped up again with additional funding so we could continue protecting the lake.
