Supplementary Information Form 990-PF, Part XV(2)(a),(b),(c),&(d) Statement of PurposesThe Howard & Wendy Long Foundation, Inc. was established in 1985 by Howard W. Long and his family to assist in financing the education of qualified Christians. Scholarships are awarded annually as Foundation funds permit, with each award approved by a majority vote of the Board of Directors of the Howard & Wendy Long Foundation, Inc.Grants to OrganizationsIn addition to its scholarship program, the Foundation today makes grants to organizations that glorify God and further His mission in the fields of education, leadership development, charitable outreach, support for veterans and first responders, and Christian artistic endeavors. Grants to organizations are made solely at the discretion of the Board of Directors to organizations preselected by the Board; the Foundation does not accept unsolicited requests for funds from organizations.Scholarship ProgramRenewal. Scholarships may be renewed through completion of the approved degree program, as determined by the Board of Directors of the Howard & Wendy Long Foundation, Inc.Eligibility Restrictions. Individuals related to anyone who has donated to the Howard & Wendy Long Foundation, Inc. are ineligible for award consideration. An applicant is also ineligible if an award would result in a private benefit, either directly or indirectly, under the provisions of the Internal Revenue Code, to any member of the Board of Directors of the Howard & Wendy Long Foundation, Inc.Criteria for Awards In addition to submitting all application materials before the June 1 deadline, applicants should be prepared to discuss:1. Their Christian faith and commitment to the Lordship of Jesus Christ, as evidenced by the fruit of the Holy Spirit, which enables one to live a righteous and holy life.2. Their record of academic excellence, as measured by grade point average, the nature of academic degrees pursued, and the quality of academic programs completed.3. Their demonstrated leadership ability, including a biblical understanding of authority and servant-leadership principles.4. Their record of good citizenship and desire to help others, as evidenced by extracurricular activities and community involvement.5. Their concept of a well-balanced life: physical, emotional, spiritual, and educational.Application ProceduresAll application materials must be received by June 1 to be considered for an award for the upcoming academic year. Notification of all awards is mailed during the month of July. Required application materials include: Scholarship application: completed by the applicant. Clergy and faculty recommendations: applicants should contact their recommenders early to allow time for the recommendation forms to be completed and returned before the deadline. Transcripts: a copy of the applicant's most recent high school or college transcript, sent to the Howard & Wendy Long Foundation, Inc. before the deadline.
