Individuals impacted by incarceration extends beyond inmates inside prison walls to include individuals such as ex-inmates and family members of inmates in the community. Ex-inmates often face homelessness, joblessness, and become repeat offenders. This cycle negatively impacts family, friends, and community as a whole. With faith-based resources and support, we aim to meet people in various stages of this cycle and encourage change.</ActivityOrMissionDesc>

<Desc>Hope in Jesus Ministries offers the Learning to Live Initiative, the Genesis Initiative, and Vocational Education Ministry classes, and mentoring to inmates at the Rhode Island Department of Corrections. Through these Initiatives, the ministry provided faith-based life skills courses, vocational, and mentoring opportunities to inmates housed in Minimum, Medium, Maximum, and Women's 1 facilities. This effort is accomplished with the joint effort of trained religious volunteers from the public. In a year, 24 twelve week classes are conducted across Minimum, Medium, Maximum, and Women's 1 facilities. These classes reached approximately 400 inmates. We maintain a sizable waiting list of inmates desiring to be enrolled in our classes. Inmates receive a certificate of completion for each class completed, as well as good time, for completed the coursework and attending sessions.</Desc>

<FactsAndCircumstancesTestTxt>This organization was established and continues to operate exclusively for religious and charitable purposes in the public space as evidenced by it's programs, services, outreach activities, educational ministries, and community assistance. Programs are conducted for the benefit of the general public with a focus on those in various states of need. For example, programs include a weekly food truck and community garden to assist those with food insecurity and homelessness. As well as outreach to children and caregivers inpacted by an incarcerated parent. The lower public support percentage reflected during the applicable computation period does not accurately represent the Organization's ongoing relationship with the public. The decrease resulted from fluctuations in contribution levels and the receipt of larger gifts from a limited number of donors during the measuring period rather than a change in the Organization's mission or its broad public support. The Organization continues to actively solicit contributions from the general public through regular community outreach, fundraising campaigns, special events, weekly online giving opportunities, and other charitable activities. It maintains an active governing board from varied walks of life that represents the public interest and exercises independent oversight of the Organization's operations. The Organization's programs remain open and accessible to the public, and a substantial portion of its activities directly benefits the community. Financial support continues to be received from multiple individuals, members, and community supporters. With the larger donations coming in, the decison was made to move forward with larger programs (food truck for example) to meet a public need and ramp up fundraising as we build the new programs. We are maintaining support well over the 10% threshold. Based on these facts and circumstances, the Organization respectfully requests that the IRS determine that it continues to qualify as a publicly supported organization under the applicable facts and circumstances provisions rather than as a private foundation. The Organization remains committed to expanding its public fundraising efforts and maintaining broad-based community support consistent with its charitable and religious mission. The Organization respectfully requests that this statement be considered in support of its continued classification as a public charity especially in these economically trying times with inflated costs of living.</FactsAndCircumstancesTestTxt>
