The Foundation also provides stipends to nurses to attend the state's annual convention; this year, $8,504 was awarded to 29 recipients.Each year, the Foundation awards spring and fall scholarships to nursing students at each of the 24 nursing schools in Mississippi. This year, a total of $57,000 in scholarships was awarded to 60 recipients. In addition, the Foundation awarded 12 scholarships totaling $10,250 through the generosity of outside donors.The Foundation's Nurse in Need program provides financial assistance of up to $500 to Mississippi nurses who are members of the Mississippi Nurses Association facing hardship, such as loss of employment, physical injury, natural disaster, travel costs, childcare needs, or medical supplies. This year, one recipient received $500 in financial assistance.In addition to scholarships and stipends, the Foundation awards PhD research grants to nursing schools with a qualified applicant. These efforts strengthened the knowledge, skills, and leadership capacity of Mississippi nurses and supported the development of a stronger nursing workforce.
