<ExplanationTxt>InnovatHope Alliance respectfully requests abatement of the late-filing penalty assessed for the above-referenced return. The late filing resulted from a good-faith breakdown in communication regarding filing responsibility, rather than willful neglect or disregard of the organization's filing obligations. As a newly established organization filing its first annual information return, InnovatHope Alliance initially consulted Joann Morrison of Tax Brilliance regarding preparation of the Form 990-EZ. Tax Brilliance quoted a preparation fee of $1,000, an amount that exceeded what the organization, a small nonprofit with limited financial resources, was able to allocate for this service. Because Form 990-EZ is a comparatively short-form return, Tax Brilliance understood that the organization would complete and file the return on its own, while the organization understood that the question of who would ultimately prepare and submit the filing had not been clearly resolved between the parties. As a result of this mutual miscommunication, the return was not filed by the statutory due date. Upon recognizing that the return had not been filed, InnovatHope Alliance took immediate corrective action and is filing the return as promptly as possible under the circumstances. As this is InnovateHope Alliance's first required filing, the organization has no prior history of noncompliance. InnovateHope Alliance made a good-faith effort to fulfill its filing obligation, including consulting a paid tax professional in advance of the deadline, and respectfully submits that the late filing reflects an honest misunderstanding about filing responsibility rather than a failure to exercise ordinary business care and prudence. The organization requests that the late-filing penalty be abated in full.
