The annual draw on the endowment will be 4 or 5% with the remainder of the interest being devoted to building the corpus of the endowment over time. The organization respectfully requests abatement of penalties related to the late filing of Form 990 for the 2024 tax year. The failure to file timely was due to reasonable cause and not willful neglect. As a church organization historically no returns had been required. In mid-2025 we realized we should have filed a return beginning with tax year 2022 upon receipt of a large endowment. Upon discovering this requirement we hired a CPA to file all required returns beginning in 2022. Since that time the organization has taken corrective steps to prevent future delays including establishing internal filing deadlines implementing calendar reminders and engaging external professional assistance to monitor compliance requirements. Given the organizations good-faith effort to comply and its prompt corrective action we respectfully request that penalties due to late filing be abated.
