Seeking to put God's love into action, Charleston Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope. By facilitating homeownership, families can break the cycle of poverty, which goes a long way to building a better future for multiple generations. CHFH provides a comprehensive package of services, including serving as a mortgage lender, home builder, social support provider, and recruiting and training center. The organization serves families earning 35% to 60% of the area median income (or up to 80% for veterans). This is a demographic that is not served by traditional lenders. Families and individuals in need of a hand up partner with Charleston Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. When Habitat accepts a family's partnership application, they make homeownership a reality for low- to moderate-income families. The Charleston affiliate was established in 1989 to serve the Charleston peninsula, North Charleston and West Ashley, and has since built 98 new homes, repaired over 99 homes and supported 60 homes in Honduras through tithes to Habitat for Humanity International. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves and their families. (Continued on Schedule O)Here are some of our accomplishments for and at the year ended June 30, 2025: - 99 new homes completed since 1989 - There are forty (40) active Charleston Habitat for Humanity mortgages. Our Repair Program is a large piece of the puzzle, which seeks to alleviate the stress of paying for expensive home repairs and will in turn improve a family's living conditions while ensuring that the repairs will not affect the affordability of the home. Critical home repair is interior or exterior work performed to alleviate critical health, life and safety issues or code violations, including a change to or repair of materials or components; a reconfiguration of space; a modification for accessibility; installation or extension of plumbing, mechanical or electrical systems on an existing structure. This also includes the need for wheelchair ramps. Projects can include existing Habitat homes. Each of our Repair Programs has different requirements and qualifications. To qualify for one of these programs, applicants must own the home (cannot be rented) and meet our family selection criteria for the repair program for which they are applying, show significant housing repair need, and a willingness to partner.
