REFRESHs program model addresses the cumulative demands placed on these women and creates structured opportunities to examine those demands strengthen support and develop more sustainable approaches to responsibility. REFRESH organizes its work around human infrastructure sustainability: the premise that the people whose contributions enable families institutions and communities to function require intentional investment in their own continued capacity. Women may remain productive dependable and publicly successful while experiencing substantial depletion. Consequently visible performance alone is an insufficient indicator of whether their responsibilities are sustainable. REFRESHs services help participants examine the relationship between what they contribute what their contributions require and the resources available to sustain them. The organizations principal current-year program services included The Lift The Pour and The Community. Together these programs provided complementary opportunities for facilitated learning mentorship reflection and practical application. They addressed leadership and personal sustainability across the settings in which participants exercise responsibility recognizing that demands originating in one area of life can affect capacity in others. THE LIFT: LEADERSHIP SUSTAINABILITY AND CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT The Lift is REFRESHs recurring citywide educational convening for high-capacity high-responsibility women. The program brings together women carrying substantial responsibilities across professional leadership entrepreneurship caregiving ministry civic engagement and community service. Its purpose is to help participants recognize the cumulative demands associated with these roles and develop approaches that support continued contribution without routinely sacrificing their own well-being. Current-year services included facilitated instruction thematic discussions guided reflection guest leadership perspectives and opportunities for participants to apply program concepts to their circumstances. Convenings combined educational content with structured discussion allowing participants to consider how responsibility operates across their lives rather than examining work family and community obligations in isolation. This format also created opportunities to exchange practical perspectives with women navigating comparable demands. A central area of instruction was the distinction between demonstrated ability and sustainable capacity. Participants were encouraged to examine assumptions that frequently accompany competence: that a person who performs well can continue accepting additional demands; that completing a responsibility successfully means it carried little personal cost; or that support becomes necessary only after performance deteriorates. The program challenged these assumptions by directing attention to the time energy preparation decision-making and recovery required to sustain contribution. Through the theme Where Will Our Healing Live? participants considered whether their daily environments supported the changes they were attempting to make. Discussions explored the difficulty of returning to established roles after gaining greater awareness of personal needs particularly when expectations access and patterns of responsibility remained unchanged. This work emphasized that restoration requires conditions that allow it to continue. Participants considered how recurring demands habitual overextension and assumptions about their availability could undermine progress. Guided reflection encouraged women to identify practical adjustments to routines commitments communication and support arrangements that could help preserve renewed capacity. The Lifts educational purpose extends beyond temporary encouragement. The program helps participants develop language for identifying unsustainable expectations and a framework for making more deliberate decisions about responsibility. Intended benefits include greater awareness of cumulative demands clearer communication of limits and needs more intentional use of available resources and stronger recognition of the conditions required for sustained leadership. These are program objectives rather than claims of independently verified outcomes. THE POUR: STRUCTURED MENTORSHIP AND APPLIED DEVELOPMENT The Pour is REFRESHs recurring invitation-based small-group mentorship program. It provides a more focused setting in which women can examine personal and professional challenges receive guidance and connect broader sustainability principles to specific decisions. Its purpose is to support women who desire sustained mentorship as they navigate responsibility leadership transitions and competing expectations. Current-year services included facilitated small-group sessions guided discussion reflective inquiry and mentorship addressing participants circumstances. The smaller format allowed greater attention to the reasoning expectations and patterns underlying a decision. Participants could explore how longstanding habits affected their choices including accepting additional responsibilities without assessing capacity delaying requests for support or prioritizing others comfort when communicating legitimate needs. The Pour supported participants in examining the difference between being capable of meeting a demand and choosing to assume responsibility for it. Mentorship discussions encouraged consideration of the consequences of a commitment the resources required to fulfill it and the effect on existing obligations. This approach positioned decision-making as an exercise in stewardship of capacity rather than a repeated demonstration of competence. The program also addressed boundaries access and availability as practical dimensions of sustainability. Participants were encouraged to examine how expectations are communicated how responsibilities become assigned and how patterns of unrestricted availability can develop over time. Mentorship helped create space for considering more deliberate responses including clarifying an expectation negotiating a commitment requesting assistance or identifying a responsibility that could no longer be sustained in its existing form. Confidentiality expectations supported the programs small-group structure and participants ability to discuss sensitive experiences. The mentorship format offered an opportunity to process uncertainty without the expectation of presenting a polished account of success. This is particularly relevant for women who routinely occupy positions in which others depend on their judgment composure and reliability. The Pour complemented The Lift by providing a setting for deeper application. Whereas a larger educational convening introduces shared concepts and perspectives mentorship allows participants to consider what those concepts require in their own lives. Intended benefits include stronger decision-making increased clarity about priorities more direct communication of needs and greater alignment between commitments and available capacity. THE COMMUNITY: FAITH-BASED EDUCATION AND REFLECTIVE PRACTICE The Community is REFRESHs recurring faith-based study and reflection program. During the current year the program conducted a structured biblical study organized around miracles with sessions addressing historical and scriptural context contemporary application and prayer. Its purpose was to provide consistent opportunities for spiritual learning reflection and grounding within the broader work of sustaining full lives and leadership. Program services included facilitated examination of biblical passages discussion of their meaning and context reflection on their relevance to participants lives and shared prayer. Part VI, Line 11a The organizations leadership reviewed the prepared Form 990 for accuracy and completeness including financial information program service accomplishments governance disclosures and required schedules. Questions and necessary corrections were addressed with the preparer before filing. A copy of the completed return was provided to all voting members of the governing body before submission with an opportunity to review the return and raise questions. Part VI, Line 12c REFRESH monitored compliance with its conflict-of-interest policy through disclosure and review of actual or potential conflicts involving board members officers and key personnel. Individuals were required to disclose relevant interests when a potential conflict arose. The board reviewed disclosed matters and individuals with a conflict recused themselves from related deliberations and voting. Disclosures recusals and board determinations were documented in meeting minutes. The board addressed identified conflicts in accordance with the policy. Part VI, Line 15 The founder personally established the compensation amount and personally contributed the committed funds to support the salary. The organization did not use a formal compensation-setting process involving independent review and approval comparability data or contemporaneous documentation of compensation deliberations and decisions. Part VI, Line 19 During the tax year the organization made its governing documents conflict-of-interest policy and financial statements available to members of the public upon request. Requests could be submitted directly to the organization and responsive documents were provided electronically or in another reasonably accessible format.
