Generally accepted accounting principles provide accounting and disclosure guidance about positions taken by an organization in its tax returns that might be uncertain. Management has considered its tax positions and believes that all of the positions taken by Cartoon Art Museum in its federal and state exempt organization tax returns are more likely than not to be sustained upon examination. Cartoon Art Museum's returns are subject to examination by federal and state taxing authorities, generally for three and four years, respectively, after they are filed. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 12c The conflict of interest policy is documented in Cartoon Art Museum's Personnel Policies: A conflict of interest is generally defined as any instance in which an individual's actions or activities are influenced by obtaining an improper gain or advantage which would adversely affect the best interest of CAM. If an employee is engaged in any activity that does or might fit the above definition he/she should report that possibility of a conflict of interest to his/her supervisor. Because of the inherent possibility of a conflict of interest in the purchase of Cartoon Art, details of all such purchases, including price must be reported to the Ethics Committee of the Board of Trustees within 30 days of purchase. The Ethics committee, operating on behalf of the Board of Trustees, may purchase the art with available funds, at cost, or may approve the purchase by the employee with a finding of no conflict of interest. Nepotism: Except in emergency situations, family and household members of Board or staff, as defined in Part VI.F.5.b., shall not be hired in any capacity by the museum.
