The organization historically relied on an outside accountant to prepare and file Form 990-EZ. When responsibility transitioned to the volunteer treasurer it was determined that Form 990 was required. The transition and additional complexity caused an unintentional delay while the treasurer gathered the necessary information and learned the filing requirements. Once understood the organization completed and filed the return. Procedures have been established to ensure timely future filings. The delay was not due to willful neglect. The organization respectfully requests penalty abatement.
