During the year the organization provided educational assistance including tuition school uniforms clothing and school supplies for children in both countries. Program funds are controlled and approved by Serenity House Africa. The Executive Director specifies the purpose and authorized use of funds before they are transmitted to local volunteers. Volunteers receive no compensation and use the funds solely to carry out the organizations approved program activities including making tuition payments directly to schools and purchasing approved clothing uniforms school supplies and other program necessities directly from vendors. No local volunteer has discretion to use the funds for personal purposes or determine an alternative use for the funds. Part III, General | Explanation:| UGANDA CHILDRENS HOME AND CHILD SUPPORT Serenity House Africa provided support for vulnerable children dealing with unstable housing or homelessness in Kampala Uganda. During the year the organization raised funds and substantially completed a childrens home designed to provide a safe and stable living environment for up to 20 children. The organization also provided educational support including school tuition and other basic needs for children in Uganda. EDUCATION AND SCHOOL SUPPLY PROGRAMS Serenity House Africa provided educational assistance to vulnerable children in both Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The organization paid school tuition for children in both countries and conducted school supply programs benefiting more than 70 children in Uganda and more than 70 children in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The organization also provided clothing and other basic necessities to children in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM Serenity House Africa established and supports an after-school center in Bukavu Democratic Republic of the Congo to provide vulnerable children with a safe and supportive environment outside of school hours. The program provides tutoring meals mentorship and a safe place for children who might otherwise spend their time on the streets. Children also participate in educational and life-skills activities including sewing instruction. The program is intended to improve educational opportunities provide nutrition and safety and help children develop practical skills and supportive relationships.
