Throughout 2024, The Unforgotten provided financial support to 60 children in Lusaka, Zambia, 5 in Sanaa, Yemen, 19 in Djibouti City, Djibouti, 21 in Kathmandu, Nepal, 45 in Freetown, Sierra Leone, 20 in Dhaka, Bangladesh and 20 in Jaipur, India. Paid for school fees, supplies, transportation, meals, scholarships, lodging, tutoring, uniforms, shoes. These children were previously not attending school and instead were living in/around landfills, looking through the waste for food to eat and items to sell, earning about 50 cents per day. The Unforgotten enrolled these former wastepickers in school. As of December 2025, our aid to these children has been very successful. All of the children are progressing through school and their academic performance has been commendable. The children have not returned to wastepicking in order to eat and earn a few cents, but have instead focused on their studies. Furthermore, to ensure proper usage of funds, The Unforgotten field office makes most of the purchases, rather than give cash directly to the aid recipients (our aid recipients are the hungry children and their mothers that live in trash dumps). Our project staff visit our aid recipients weekly. Our project staff purchase meal supplements and deliver them personally. Our projects manager pays the school fees of the children. Our project staff purchases school supplies such as uniforms. Our projects manager visits with the school principal and teachers to ensure that the children we provide aid to are attending school regularly. Our projects managers visits the small businesses the mothers have established to monitor and provide guidance. Our in-country projects manager provides weekly field reports to the US Board of Directors. Directors from our Board visit project sites annually, to monitor usage of funds. All receipts are kept on a share drive (DropBox folders). Every transaction (whether expense or donation) has an ID number, and records to document it. At the end of the fiscal year, all records and bank statements are reviewed by the Finance committee, and our financial statement is externally reviewed by a CPA. Each country supported by The Unforgotten has a separate checking account in the US and one inside the country. All transactions appear on those checking accounts. In each country The Unforgotten operates, we have filed with the government of that country to operate as a local charity. We operate locally as Unforgotten-Zambia, Unforgotten-Sierra Leone, Unforgotten-India, Unforgotten-Djibouti, Unforgotten-Nepal, Unforgotten-Bangladesh, Unforgotten-Yemen. Funds are transferred from US accounts to the country accounts. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11b The Unforgotten has a process for preparation and review of the Form 990 and its distribution to all board members prior to filing with the Internal Revenue Service. This process will provide board members the opportunity to review the Form 990 while also ensuring that annual filing deadlines may be met. The Organization's Executive Director, Finance Committee Chair, and Chief Financial Officer are responsible for the timely preparation of the Form 990. The Organization may confer with accountants and legal counsel of the Organization with respect to drafts of the Form 990. Copies of the completed draft Form 990 (including required schedules) will be distributed to the Audit Committee in either electronic or paper form for review and approval. Any questions or concerns will be noted and addressed, and management staff will ensure that changes are incorporated into the Form 990 as appropriate. Copies of the draft Form 990 will then be distributed to the Board of Directors in either electronic or paper form for review and approval. If potential or actual conflicts (past, present or future) are identified, the person determined to have a conflict is recused from deliberations and voting.
