Accounting principles generally accepted in the United States of America require the Centers management to evaluate tax positions taken by the Center and to recognize a tax liability (or asset) if the Center has taken an uncertain tax position that will more-likely-than-not be sustained upon examiniation by taxing authorities. Management has analyzed the tax positions taken by the Center for the years ended June 30, 2023 and 2022 and believes that there are no such positions as of June 30, 2023 or 2022. While the grants were designed to support activities over a three to five year term, the entire funding was recorded as income in the year it was received, during and after the pandemic. Extensions were granted by the funding sources, to allow spending of these funds. Consequently, the corresponding programmatic and operational expenses related to these grants have also been charged to the current fiscal year, instead of being distributed over the intended duration. This accounting methodology resulted in the current year $3,317,507 net loss. Therefore, when considering the three years combined, there is a net loss of $3,250,683.
