We are the only national organization focused solely on the unique attributes and needs of Black children, birth through age 8. We exist to fight for the creation of an equitable and just future for Black children and families. We mobilize communities and ignite movements on the strength of Black excellence. We provide educational training, certification programs, initiatives and supports of little or no cost that are targeted to marginalized, low income communities in which our Black children and families live. (1) Literacy developed by NBCDI in 2017, The Read to Succeed program is designed to promote early literacy and language development, support black child development by assuring that the children read stories where they see themselves and read stories that affirms who they are or who they can be. Children of color need culturally affirming, responsive, and reflective and phenotypically accurate learning materials that promote positive self-perception and foster a true sense of belonging and engagement in their learning and care environments.
