(BLF) qualifies for non-private foundation status since it receives substantial support from contributions from the general public and is organized so as to attract new and additional public support on a continuous basis. BLF receives investment income earned on funds contributed by the general public in previous tax years. BLF continuously solicits contributions from the general public, especially members of the City of Birmingham Police Department. All support for BLF is comprised of contributions from the general public. BLF operates under the direction of a Board of Directors who represent the broad interests of the public. The Board of Directors is comprised of members from the fields of accounting, law, healthcare, law enforcement and banking. These members are community and civic leaders who actively participate in the organization's programs. The Board of Directors carefully oversees the assets of the organization to ensure the program of the organization is maintained in order to accomplish its charitable goals.
