Provide support to local Leagues and support the development of new local chapters. false false 842778 139310 5315 Nonpartisan Community Education for Texas Voters: Voters turn to the League for unbiased, nonpartisan election information ahead of every election. Information on election processes and what will be on the ballot are easily accessible with printed Voters Guides at local libraries as well as on VOTE411.org and the League website online. We translate the Voters Guide into Spanish, Simplified Chinese, and Vietnamese to ensure new citizens can read it on VOTE411.org in the language they are most comfortable with. We use cutting-edge technology to reach voters across Texas. Voters still find the Voters Guide in print in libraries and community centers; it is also easily viewed by phone, tablet, or computer on LWVTexas.org and at VOTE411.org. We promote voting and elections with QR codes, text reminders, and on social media with videos and graphics. During the 2023 Constitutional Amendment Elections, our explainer videos were viewed more than one million times. In 2024, we distributed more than 175,000 printed Voters' Guides, and the Guides were accessed over 940,000 times on VOTE411. Leveraging a grant, we collaborated with Leagues in the Houston area to deliver more than 800,000 guides to voters' homes or through community centers. Voters look to their counties to find accurate, accessible, and useful voter information on safe and secure county election websites. County election websites continue to achieve outstanding ratings for the quality and clarity of their voter information, reflecting the positive impact of our review and support efforts. Ratings improved 53% from two years ago. Part III, Line 4a cont. Fighting for Safe and Accessible Elections for All: The League partners with legal organizations to fight government efforts to suppress the vote in Texas, and we win those fights. We participated in a successful lawsuit to require the Department of Public Safety to offer voter registration online to those updating their driver's license online and joined in filing multiple other suits that suppress the vote of people of color, people with disabilities, students, senior citizens, or economically disadvantaged people. Part III, Line 4a cont. Safe Voting for Vulnerable Populations: Organized community organizations and county and state government partners to promote working at the polls to the younger, less vulnerable population. Provided information on vote-by-mail, including eligibility, due dates, tips to fill out the application, and tips to turn in a vote-by-mail ballot. Part III, Line 4a cont. Election Protection: LWVTX partnered with the Texas Election Protection coalition to ensure voters have access to a fair and equitable election process. We monitor elections for potential issues and support voters facing barriers to voting, including voter intimidation, misinformation, and accessibility barriers. We recruited 120 Election Protection volunteers to support voters and safeguard the electoral process. Part III, Line 4a cont. Organizational Development: Capacity building is a top priority. The "Building League Power" training series equipped League leaders with new tools for recruitment, governance, and legislative advocacy. Provided training and support to existing local Leagues and members through webinars, regular calls with leaders, newsletters, in-person training sessions, mentorship, and telephone support. League volunteers come from diverse populations in metropolitan, suburban, and rural areas. Small grants supported innovative voter outreach projects. These efforts have built stronger organizations ready to empower voters and defend democracy across Texas. We expanded our team to enhance fundraising capabilities, bolster get-out-the-vote initiatives, and enable our Executive Director to focus on strategic, mission-critical efforts. Defending Democracy: In the 89th Texas Legislature, the League moved quickly to defend voting rights and advocate on public education, women's health, gun safety, child well-being, and water infrastructure. We also monitored a special session on mid-decade redistricting. Our network responded to 54 action alerts, sending 165,000 messages to lawmakers. We helped block a measure that would have imposed unnecessary proof of citizenship to register to vote. The League supported a successful constitutional amendment creating new long-term funding for the Texas Water Fund. Part VI, Line 6 The organization is made up of members. Part VI, Line 7a The membership elects the board of directors. Part VI, Line 11b The Form 990 is provided to the board prior to filing. Part VI, Line 12c The board chair monitors the board members regarding any potential conflicts of interest. Part VI, Line 15a The fiscal management committee makes recommendations to the budget committee. The budget committee considers the recommendations and proposes a budget to the board of directors for a vote of approval. Wages and increases are governed by the budget passing. The budget is approved by the membership at a convention.
