Pt VI, Line 6 The organization has members. Any person may be a county Farm Bureau member. All county Farm Bureau members have voting rights and the same access to member benefits. Pt VI, Line 7a The organizations members elect the Board of Directors. Pt VI, Line 7b Certain rights are reserved to members of the organization, including: 1) elect the Board of Directors, including the voting delegate to the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation, 2) adopt amendments to the Articles of Incorporation, and 3) adopt amendments to those bylaws designated as member bylaws. Pt VI, Line 11b A complete copy of Form 990 is provided to members of the governing body for review prior to filing. The return is then signed by an authorized officer and filed with the IRS. Pt VI, Line 12c On an annual basis, all officers, directors, and key employees are required to sign a statement which affirms that they have: 1) received a copy of the conflict of interest policy, 2) read and understood the policy, 3) agreed to comply with the policy, 4) understand that the Organization is tax-exempt and in order to maintain its federal tax exemption it must engage primarily in activities which accomplish its tax-exempt purpose. A sub-committee, comprised of non-conflicted Board of Directors, annually receives all conflict of interest information, reviews, and determines if there are conflicts of interest. The committee then reports its findings back to the Board. These positions are then carried forward by the voting delegate to the state policy conference, ensuring that the voices of local members contribute to statewide Farm Bureau policy development. Following the adoption of these resolutions, the organizations board and membership actively support policy implementation through grassroots advocacy. Members contact their elected representatives to communicate policy positions and share concerns related to legislative activity. To maintain strong relationships with policymakers, the organization hosts monthly legislative forum meetings, providing ongoing opportunities for dialogue between members and lawmakers. Board members also attend meetings at the state capitol to support Farm Bureau policy initiatives and advocate for issues affecting the agricultural community. At the national level, the organization participates in regional board meetings with federal representatives to discuss national issues and highlight the concerns of local producers. Through these combined efforts, the organization maintains a strong presence in the policy process, ensuring that agricultural and rural issues remain a priority across all levels of government. Other Part III, Line 4b - Membership - The organization administers a county wide membership program that connects individuals and families to agricultural advocacy, education, and community engagement opportunities. Through their membership, individuals receive timely and relevant updates on agricultural issues, legislative developments, and organizational initiatives at the local, state, and national levels, helping members stay informed on matters affecting agriculture and rural communities. Throughout the year, the organization supported its membership by providing structured opportunities for involvement, leadership development, and grassroots participation. Members were encouraged to take part in the annual opinionnaire process to help shape policy priorities, attend legislative forums, participate in educational programming, and serve on committees that advance the organizations mission and strengthen the agricultural community. Membership benefits include access to educational programming, informational publications, leadership opportunities, volunteer activities, and a variety of member focused events that promote professional growth and community involvement. The organization hosted workshops, public forums, and outreach events throughout the year to foster engagement and create meaningful connections among members, local organizations, and agricultural stakeholders. Revenue generated through membership supports the organizations broader mission by funding outreach initiatives, agricultural education efforts, public policy engagement, scholarships, and essential operational activities. Other Part III, Line 4c - Promotion and Agricultural Education - The organization is deeply committed to promoting agriculture, supporting youth programs, and strengthening agricultural education throughout Madison County. As part of its community engagement efforts, the organization hosted its annual cookout contest, which highlights and promotes a variety of meat products. The organization also donated gate sponsorship fees and contributed funding for stage naming rights at the Madison County Fair to support local agricultural events and activities. In addition, the organization sponsors and hosts the Madison County Fair Queen Contest and provides donations to area schools for their After Prom events to help promote safe celebrations for local youth. The organization purchases County Fair trophies from local commodity groups, supporting both youth exhibitions and local agricultural stakeholders. Donations were also made to the local food pantry to assist families in need. To strengthen agricultural literacy among young people, the organization sponsors an Ag Mystery Walk during the county fair, helping introduce youth to various aspects of agriculture in an interactive format. The organization is a strong advocate for agricultural education and has worked diligently to keep agricultural programs in local schools. Many districts have considered budget cuts that would reduce or eliminate agricultural education, and the organization has consistently advocated for the continuation of these programs. The organization hosts Ag4Kids Day for 5th grade students from Winterset, I35, Orient Macksburg, and Earlham schools. Local and state commodity groups are invited to present both in classrooms and at the fairgrounds, helping students understand the many ways agriculture is connected to daily life. During the year, the organization awarded five scholarships to support students pursuing postsecondary education, particularly in agriculture related fields. The organization also continues to collaborate with local FFA chapters and 4H clubs to promote agriculture within the community and support youth leadership development. Through community events, educational programming, financial contributions, and strong partnerships with local schools and youth organizations, the organization continues to advance agricultural awareness and strengthen the agricultural community across Madison County.
