Its governing instrument directs that preference be given to persons possessing one or more of the following characteristics: (i) status as a member, or descendent from a member, of the congregation of the John Gloucester Memorial Presbyterian Church, one of the oldest Black Presbyterian congregations in New England; (ii) being a person of color; (iii) residence in Mission Hill, an inner-city neighborhood in Boston, Massachusetts; (iv) demonstrated academic ability; (v) demonstrated leadership and citizenship; (vi) membership in the Presbyterian Church;(vii) a desire to attend a Presbyterian educational institution; and (viii) knowledge of the history of the John Gloucester Memorial Presbyterian Church. Part IV, Section D, Line 2-3: The organization (John Gloucester Memorial Fund) maintains a close and continuous relationship with the supported organization, the Presbytery of Boston - Presbyterian Church (USA). Pursuant to Article 3(a) of the Declaration of Trust establishing the Fund, the Presbytery has the right to designate at least one of the three trustees of the Trust, and may in their discretion designate two of the four Trustees. The initial Trustee designated by the Presbytery was the Rev. Louis Charles Willard, who continues to serve in that capacity. As the Trustee appointed by the Presbytery, Rev. Willard reports to, and participates on behalf of, the supported organization with respect to the administration of the Fund. As Trustee, Rev. Willard has an active role in the Fund's management and the investment of its assets. Rev. Willard further participates actively in all decisions made by the Trustees with regard to annual grants from the Fund. Schedule A, Part V, Section D, Line 8: As described in Schedule I, the John Gloucester Memorial Presbyterian Church Scholarship Fund (the Fund) distributes scholarship funds to individual members of the charitable class of its supported organization, the Presbytery of Boston - Presbyterian Church (the Church). The Fund's activities in supporting the scholarship program are necessary to avoid the interruption of other charitable activities of the Church. In addition, by virtue of Rev. Willard's role as the Presbytery's designee, as described above (Part IV, Section D, Line 2-3), the Church is attentive to the Fund's operations. 1 Scholarships awarded to a member, or descendent from a member, of the John Gloucester Memorial Presbyterian Church with a desire to attend a Presbyterian educational institution. 5 14800 Part I, Line 2: The scholarship recipients and amounts are determined by a Scholarship Board consisting of not fewer than eleven and not more than fifteen members, three of whom are appointed by the Presbytery of Boston - Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). The other members, called "Community Members" in the governing instrument, are a self-perpetuating body composed originally of persons representing the former John Gloucester Memorial Presbyterian Church congregation and the Mission Hill neighborhood. The Board reviews the applications received by it and awards the scholarships in accordance with the criteria described above. It does not consider the employment status of the applicant or any relative of the applicant. No person who is related to a Trustee or a member of the Board will be eligible to apply for a scholarship. Scholarship recipients are asked to send an annual progress report, including a one-page statement of what the student feels he or she has accomplished during the year, to the Organization. During the term of a scholarship and for a reasonable period of time thereafter, the Organization maintains a file on all scholarship recipients. The file includes the recipient's original application materials, including information identifying the recipient as eligible to receive a grant, a statement of the amount and purpose of each grant, the student's annual reports, and other relevant information.
