In January, we hosted an exchange between a group of Soka University of America students and scholars from Boston-area institutions on religion and peacebuilding. In May, we launched our inaugural Educating for Peace Conference which provides instruction, curriculum resources, and professional development for teachers to improve peace and disarmament education. In June, we held our annual Global Citizens Seminar with 13 doctoral students. In addition, we hosted our Indigo Talk series. Finally. we convened our annual Ikeda Forum for Intercultural Dialogue on "Engaging Difference in an Age of Division," featuring a panel of scholars and peacebuilders. 460799 Networking and Program Development: In support of our goal of building and developing connections with like-minded scholars and peacebuilders, the Center convened virtual and in-person meetings throughout the year to develop educational programs, conferences, publications, and collaborative initiatives that advance the Center's educational mission. These networking meetings provided opportunities to share about our work and mission while developing future educational programs and scholarly initiatives that examine aspects of peace, dialogue, and education. We also hosted planning meetings with scholars who partnered with us on our events, strengthening those relationships through ongoing engagement. In addition, we connected with scholars and graduate students at academic conferences and related events, further expanding and deepening our network. 279743 Publications and Website: In 2025, the Center continued efforts to distribute educational publications and digital resources to scholars, students, educators, and members of the public to advance peace and education through networking meetings, conferences, and social media. We shared books with scholars and students to deepen our connections with them. At the end of the year, the Center distributed educational publications through its annual book sale to broaden public access to our scholarly resources. We also continued to develop chapters and confirmed a publisher for our next multi-author book, Dialogues of the Heart: Daisaku Ikeda, Transnationalism, and American Literature. The program is publicly announced, and eligible doctoral students are invited to apply. Applications are evaluated under established objective criteria by a selection committee consisting of scholars in the field. In the summer of 2025, we held a mid-program seminar with the four current Education Fellows. Prior to the seminar, the fellows submitted a progress report outlining proof of progress of their dissertation. During the in-person seminar, fellows presented progress on their dissertation research, received feedback from the program advisors, and and engaged in scholarly discussion intended to strengthen the quality of their research. In 2025, we did not accept new applications. The Program supports independent doctoral dissertations in the field of Ikeda/Soka studies in education, including its relation to the philosophy and practice of education more generally. The Ikeda Center invites a wide range of approaches, including dissertation research that examines intrinsic and extrinsic dimensions of Ikeda/Soka studies in education. By "intrinsic" we mean the historical and primary texts by Makiguchi, Toda, and Ikeda in Japanese and in the contexts in which they were written; by "extrinsic" we mean these texts and their ideas in translation and application in various contexts and disciplines. The Education Fellows Program is administered by the Center as an educational program designed to support and supervise doctoral research through objective selection procedures, ongoing academic review, and structured mentoring.
