SWIFT is dedicated to addressing the pressing Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) challenges in two underserved communities (Isiwu and Eginrin Ekun) in Ikorodu, Lagos State, Nigeria by deploying climate resilient WASH infrastructure to increase access to clean water in these underserved communities. The project has successfully drilled two industrial boreholes with a combined capacity of 30,000 liters per day, serving over 9000 direct beneficiaries in Isiwu and Eginrin Ekun communities. Water treatment facilities were installed in both sites to purify the borehole water, and portable water standard has been achieved for distribution to three distinct fetching point within each community. The facilities are powered by a 12kW solar system comprising PV panels, lithium-ion batteries and an inverter in both communities. Beyond infrastructure delivery, the project integrates governance strengthening and structured capacity building to ensure long-term sustainability and community ownership. In 2025, Project SWIFT trained a total of 106 community members in governance, asset maintenance and financial management. The intervention directly contributes to the objectives of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), while embedding environmental sustainability through solar-powered systems and community-led management models. Project SWIFT builds on the success of our Agala WEDA pilot project by focusing on community capacity building in addition to infrastructure development and refining community led WASH delivery models to ensure long term sustainability as we continue to scale the WASH program. In Lagos, Nigeria, many underserved communities face severe challenges related to water scarcity and inadequate sanitation, resulting in increased health risks. Our WASH program addresses these challenges by introducing renewable and circular approaches, ensuring that the communities and other surrounding ecosystems are preserved. A key component o WASH is community engagement and capacity building. At Optimal Greening, we work closely with communities, offering training and education on facility management, responsible water and energy conservation, and water reduction practices. PART I, LINE 1 In 2025, Optimal Greening spent over $125,000 on its WASH program. During this reporting year, Optimal Greening Foundation USA donated $80,000 to the execution entity, Optimal Greening Nigeria through its existing granting agreement. Other funders contributed directly to Optimal Greening Nigeria for the execution of Project SWIFT and other program activities, including monitoring and evaluation activities for the close of our Agala pilot project. PART I, LINE 1 The WASH program provides low income and underserved communities with clean water supply from an industrial borehole with a water treatment facility, and a solar power to run the facilities; all contributing to improved health, social and environmental outcomes for thousands of beneficiaries in our implementing communities. PART I, LINE 1 Our WASH Program has benefited over 10,100 direct and 23,500 indirect beneficiaries across three underserved communities in Africa to date. The program has trained over 1,665 local community members and created 85 new jobs in operations and maintenance of WASH facilities. Our Agala pilot project demonstrated that reliable solar-powered water systems ensure consistent access to safe drinking water resulting in 81% reduction in waterborne diseases, improved household hygiene practices and reduced healthcare costs by 30% for beneficiary families. Our Impact Reports shows that access to clean water and sanitation is transformational with a 45% increase in women's productivity and 19% increase in girls' school attendance. Furthermore, Optimal Greening's approach to community WASH governance prioritizes inclusion of women in leadership and decision-making roles. Collectively, we have achieved an average of 40% female representation across governance structures within all our implementing communities.
